Hustler White (1996, LaBruce) Great comedy about gay porn in L.A. Purportedly a satire on Sunset Boulevard, as a screenwriter arrives in Hollywood to “scout” the gay porn scene. Soon enough he’s involved with a young stud who committed a brutal hit and run. Que sera. Funny, and nasty, as fuck.

I have the three in a saved window. Should be fun, by my standards, which are the only ones that matter to me.

Here (2023, d. Gong) A man goes on vacation, meets a beautiful woman, and falls both for her and her job of analyzing moss she’s collected. Amazingly photographed, I loved this minimalist film.

Door III (1996, d. K. Kurosawa) An insurance saleswoman, stressed about her dip in sales, finds herself involved, not sexually, with a big time businessman. It's a sales attempt but he gets obsessed, she sees people in the shadows, and it’s a gradual hell breaks loose. 1/2

Love them both and I don't think I've read either. Edith's Diary by Highsmith is in one of my TBR piles. One that I'll actually read. Trying to catch up on Herron's Slow Horses series before I watch the current season.

Jordan Harper's A Violent Masterpiece and S.A. Cosby's All The Sinners Bleed, plus anything by Megan Abbott. They're my three favorite crime writers right now.

Yeah, I'm 67 in a "liberal" town, where the leading mayoral candidate is backed by AI and, concomitantly, ICE. We're only people, no one he gives a shit about.

That's where I watched it. I like pretty women, and this was Fox when she looked human, but honest, I prefer Seyfried. As for me, I'm doing great. How's by you?

Hideous (2022, d. Gonzalez) 22 minutes of glorious filmmaking, as star Oliver Sim of the xx promotes his solo debut to some of the best visuals I’ve seen. It’s pop synth music, not a style I generally like, although there’s at least one great song here, 1/2

Jennifer’s Body (2009, d. Kusama) Pretty good horror flick with a fantastic finish and the world’s worst soundtrack. Stars Megan Fox as the hot chick who becomes a demon, and Amanda Seyfried as her nerdy (? That was a helluva makeup job) best friend.

The announcer said it took guts to name Deshaun Watson the Cleveland starter. Guts? To name a man who settled out of court on millions of dollars of rape accusations? I think the word you're looking for is culpability.

Body Snatchers (1993, d. Ferrara) Meg Tilly stars in this adaptation of the Jack Finney novel, with Billy Wirth, bland as hell but very pretty as her hero boyfriend. Standouts were the often gruesome (think Cronenberg lite) special effects, Gabrielle Anwar as the stepmom, and Forest Whitaker. 1/2

"I'm God's instrument," Reverend Short said. "I don't doubt that," Grave Digger said, trying to hold his attention until Coffin Ed had time to approach the rear windows. "All we want to do is see that you get safe and sound back into God's instrument case." - Chester Himes, The Crazy Kill

Misha and I are the only customers at The Crepe Place. We walk into the back and Syd Barrett is playing, followed by Stevie Wonder. So, I’m dead and in heaven, right? Great dog, great music, and access to a full bar.

Edited the last chapter of my WIP this morning, and the first chapter tonight. Also printed my pages of notes on newly acquired corkboard. For those who think I watch movies for a living. What I do for a living remains the question; I'm a novelist.

Straight Time (1978, d. Grosbard) Great flick about a man released from prison (Dustin Hoffman) who hits it off far more with unemployment employee Theresa Russell than with his parole officer, M. Emmet Walsh, who essentially drives Hoffman back to crime. 1/2

Fear City (1984, d. Ferrara) A psycho attacks dancers, some managed by Matt (Tom Berenger) and Nicky (Jack Scalia). Matt is an ex-boxer who quit after killing a man in the ring, and he’s trying to get back with Loretta (Melanie Griffith), a stripper trying to stay off drugs. 1/2

2026 was the hottest summer on record since records began in 1895. Shockingly, Republicans are trying to stop ALL federal heat safety protection regs-NOW OR IN THE FUTURE. HR6213 prohibits OSHA from creating or enforcing ANY national heat safety standard. Let's stop this! 1/

/I saw Johnny Thunders play some little bar. There was a break between sets, and Johnny walked through the "crowd." He may have been a little fucked up. He was one of my heroes, so I said, "Hey Johnny! Buy me a drink!" And he looked at me and sneered, "Fuck you four eyes." I love that man.

Streets of Fire (1984, d. Hill) Great action scenes and some awful dialogue are sandwiched between truly terrible “rock n roll” in this semi-winner from Walter Hill. Singer Ellen Aim (Diane Lane) is kidnapped by Willem Dafoe, and must be saved by Michael Paré.
