This past week I continued my sojourn through Presidential burial sites with a visit to President Andrew Johnson’s gravesite in Greeneville, Tennessee. At the highest point in Greeneville, he may have been one of the worst presidents but his site has some of the best views I’ve witnessed thus far.

I visited the Pearl Harbor Memorial today—it was a reminder to me that our president does not own the American story. He may be able to drive a narrative, but the prevailing force in our country has always been its resiliency and ability to unite—even in dark moments. We still have that ability now.

284 years ago today in 1742, Susanna Wesley, the mother of John and Charles Wesley (and mother to a total of 19 children) died at the age of 73. John peached his mother’s funeral and Charles wrote the epitaph for her headstone. 📸: From my trip to London last November

Today marks the start of Nurse’s Week—and I think it is one of the greatest of all professions. I’m biased, but when your mom is the nurse that she is, it just all adds up. She is a caliber of nurse worthy of imitation. Giving thanks for all those in the nursing profession today and every day.

My 8 year old daughter imposed ashes on my forehead this evening at church. I asked her if she knew what to say when she put those ashes on someone’s forehead. She responded that she did and said, “God loves you” as the ash swept across my head. What a perfect thing to say.
