It's that time of year again. Readers, I summon you! Recommend me SCI-FI HORROR books, preferably with audio versions.

I miss Pinterest. Before it became flooded with AI crap, it was such a good place to create mood boards for books.

Pretty sure there are a few bits of Sheff way more dangerous than an unexplored cave system full of monsters.

With the GodEater Saga phase 2 Kickstarter just around the corner, it's time to start sharing some artwork. Meet Ertide Hostain. This is by the artist Ghonz and is one of 5 art cards of major characters from the saga. Follow The GodEater Saga Phase 2 on Kickstarter.

I love a good prologue and this one sets the scene right away! Soul Stealer by El McInerney.

I did! Even more than book 1. I actually love how you deepened the main characters, and the insights we get into their pasts that shaped them.

A bit of holiday Reading. I've just finished The Words of Kings and Prophets by @shaunalawless.bsky.social and I'm starting Soup Stealer by El McInerney. What are y'all reading today?

I have been publishing for 13 years and have released over 25 books. So far, in my current manuscript, I have cut: 600 x 'just' 210 x 'heard' 120 x 'saw' 340 x 'look' 100 x 'snarl' 110 x 'for a moment' Never stop improving! Good books take time, love, and a lot of sweat.

Today on my editing adventure, I will be hunting 'heards' and 'saws'. Wish me luck, brethren and sestren. These are canny prey.

I am ruthless. Also helps that it's largely a trash word.

Rob J. Hayes - author of The God Eater Saga @robjhayes.bsky.social · 16/09/2026

I have successfully removed 600 instances of the word 'just' from this manuscript. Now onto my next overused trash word... Yeah, I don't love this stage of editing.

When it comes to SFF TV, I'm generally a big fan of bringing back longer, monster-of-the week style shows. But there was a period in the 90s/00s where every show HAD to have an episode where the MC wakes up in a psychiatric hospital and URGH! Never bring that shit back!

There's a new wave of authors trying to sell others their success. Be wary! I'm not gonna say they can't help grow a readership, but there is no magic bullet and what works for one doesn't necessarily work for all.

I'm playing through Elden Ring as a caster build and every time I get into combat, the game trolls me. It's a fair criticism, though.

When was the last time you bought a book based on the blurb? This might be a me thing, but the blurbs/synopsis are almost invisible to me now. Most of my book purchases are based on recommendations by friends/reviewers that I trust. I kinda miss blurb picks.

We won’t be saved by a single act of heroism, but by a thousand of them. Every one of you fighting your own war, fighting for yourselves, for each other, for you families. Not one of us can do this alone, but together… Together we are unstoppable! -The GodEater Saga

Pride is a tool like any other. In the wrong hands, it can be a terrible thing. But it can also be used to inspire good. If you can retain enough pride to do the right thing, even in the face of scorn and ridicule, you can inspire that same pride in others. -The GodEater Saga

Author brethren & sestren, how do you name things in your worlds? For me, if I need a character name, I like to take a walk through a graveyard and look at stones. And if I need a tavern name, I usually turn to my bookshelves and pick a loved book to turn into a tavern.
