You look at me like I'm going to explode any second now. I won't lose them.

Kyle lost his goddamn ring and you know it's a big deal when it doesn't come back to him right then and there, right? Some of those are not just some items. I 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 need you to go. ... In case something happens and we'll need extra help. You'll be the backup.

Oh. I get it. You lost someone back there, they didn't make it back and now you're afraid. Dick, we've got a lot of people leaving today. I don't think both of us can convince the rest of them. You said it, it should be fine.

Far from my fifth. There's no trace of it at all, I'll have to check with the others later. ... You don't seem to be sure of leaving.

... Are you saying this is fifth dimensional? Or just some magic shit?

That's after I left Gotham. No, you haven't told me. What happened?

Sure. You got your own things going on and the team is all here. Should be fine. Why? Worried? Know something I don't?

Brighter nights ... Doesn't seem to apply around here, but we'll see.

God knows how bad it'll fuck whoever it is up when I'm watching over them.

020

God knows how bad it'll fuck him up if they end up under his wings and something bad happens.

The best choice, he thought. Looking back, 𝘩𝘦 was the next best thing after his brother. With what Dick was going through, the team was better off in his hands. "'s what I'm here for. Dreams like that could mess you up ... You should send him a message when you can, it'll make you feel better."

000

Jason made no effort to suppress his grin. It was funny the first time and—well, it still was. "Just between you and me ... He was my first choice for you guys." He wasn't lying. The moment he left them on the rooftop, he was set on calling his brother.

100

"Your power kinda puts you in this position, that's not something you can help," he continued, his tone a little more serious now, "it's a pressuring work, but you're not demanded to ... I don't know, always be perfect. At least I won't expect you to be. You're still young."

010

Did this team really make a wise decision by choosing him? It wasn't for Jason to judge, but he swore to himself he'd make it the right one. "You brats would be a nuisance if I say no anyway," he snorted, ruffling Ezra's hair.

"I've been a teenager too," he shrugged. "I get it." He wasn't isolated. There was a mentor who loved the boy he was. A brief mission with a team ... "I was a Titan too," he murmured. A brief run, but they saw them as one. He didn't know if he'd call himself that now.

"We're left to learn by ourselves, don't you think? With what we have and whatever's coming next."

000

"You know what's funny though?" he looked from his feet drawing a line in the sand and, finally, to the boy. What he saw there was a scared boy who was willing to 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘱. "It's your first time leading a time, my first time keeping kids in line. We both don't know if we're doing the right thing. So."

Jason felt Ezra's eyes on him. Yet, for some reason, he was too ... reluctant to look back. What would he find there? "Many," he answered solemnly. His mother for a start. Then, another mother by the end of it. This kid didn't need to know that, he thought.

Jason was Ezra's age when he donned the red and green, maybe a little younger. He tried to remember how his brother used to console him then. "Knowing you though, I know you'd try your best regardless. You caught him when he fell and you'll do it again. They'll do the same for you too."

010

"You make up for it," he heaved a sigh as he sat down next to Ezra. "I can't guarantee you'll have a smooth run as a vigilante—hero, whatever you identify yourself as. You will fuck up one way or another." It might sound less like reassurance and more like a threat coming from him.

"Yeah. Just take a minute to breathe." Jason opened the cooler box and handed a bottle of cold water to Ezra. "You ... Can tell me more if you want."

000

I still can't find my goddamn knives. Where the hell are they?

000

"Sometimes they feel too real to be called a dream, I get it. And—shit, okay. Why don't I get you something to drink, huh? Cold water for you to cool down?"

010

"What? He—? No, you all managed to get him down safely. I checked on him right after. He's fine, Ezra." "... But you don't seem to be."
