The thing I like about a green way from town into nature is the instant energy recharge that you get! Even when... especially when expending energy.

Here's another dimension that has come up in 2 conversations in the last 2 days: filter/charge points, or a zone? The CC & TFs are both based on 6 points, and so allow some moves, but not others. A low or no traffic 'zone' may give more even reduction and less 'shift' in traffic flows.

What rubbish reporting. I don't think they will be able to provide evidence of such advice, it's misinformation. In fact, free permits are available for frequent patients, some disabled people, and carers.

There's another factor: How to tackle congestion, pollution, suppression of healthy activity and other harms in every market town. An approach that scales to Abingdon, Didcot, Witney, etc is needed.

If ZEZ scope were expanded to include other car harms (weight would be a good proxy) this could work. I'm slightly wary of complexity.

Imagine that extreme right-wingers have occupied your high street, blocking the way, with cameras recording, and are asking intrusive questions, trying to find out what your political views are. It's an updated Nazi playbook, 1936, but with tech, social media and who knows what AI.

The official growth rate of 0.5% would yield a Greater Oxford of a tiny 259k by 2040. Still only about half the Government's guiding principle of 500k (which in any case applies to today, not 2040). www.gov.uk/government/p...

The Greater Oxford proposal was also based on fudged data, and would not deliver councils of viable scale. As POETS identified in the same doc, instead of using ONS growth rates of 0.5%, Oxford City inflated the rates to 2.9%, to grow tiny Greater Oxford from 240k population to 345k by 2040

It was silly to try splitting the economic unit of Oxfordshire into three parts. The commuting patterns analysis by POETS show that Oxfordshire functions as a unit, with almost no interaction with West Berkshire. www.poetsplanningoxon.uk/poets-local-...

We know that smoke from cars is bad for lung and brain development, just like second-hand tobacco smoke. And the evidence is mounting, with a recent study showing how air pollution reductions in London compared to Luton were linked to improved lung function in children studied over several years.

Robin Tucker @robintucker1.bsky.social · 01/09/2026
How can children choose what they breathe? The Conservative party wants to scrap the phase-out of polluting cars the damage children's lungs and the climate. I would rather give children a chance than give drivers a choice.

Robin Tucker @robintucker1.bsky.social · 24/08/2026
Once again, taxpayers have to subsidise car drivers... who pay nothing. But it's the land that is the big cost here. WODC is gifting this to its most affluent residents, who cause most danger, instead of helping its most needy.

This is indeed a wake-up call, one being repeated across the UK this summer. The climate crisis is here and damaging lives and the economy. We need to move to the sustainable future, not make the crisis worse by allowing more emissions. That needs government action, not just individuals.

Trees have a hugely important role in sustaining our climate, and we need to be looking after them. They also have more immediate benefits, reducing temperature in hot streets. So it's great to see children involved in understanding their importance.

Amazingly, despite this incompetence, Paul Major, Emily Scaysbrook and Anne Gwinnett, Directors of ORFOL are still asking for donor cash to pay for spending more than they had raised funds for. This does not seem a good way to run a company.

This also shows how nice Burford High Street could be with a couple of traffic filters. Instead of the current plague of ever-growing vehicles. Car park on the A40, and either walk or small electric shuttles from there.
Burford High Street, with some beautiful buildings on the sides, but you don't really notice because the street is full of noisy, smelly and visually intrusive cars.
