is what i tell myself, again and again,/
before i sit down to pen another tragic nonfiction
account;/
believe me, i’m sick of my defeatism, too./

who keep forcing themselves into our minds/
and in the middle of every headline, again and again;/
i wish i could afford not to have an opinion;/
i want to stake every monster that helped them gain their power./
if i could go back in time and stop this,/

i would kick as many as i could, as many as I could make topple down/
in hopes even one could save us from this./
i would grab people’s shoulders and shake them violently./
i would scream in their faces until they listened to me;/
folks love to say, “we didn’t know how good we had it”,/
but it still sucked back then. we just didn’t know it;/
we were setting up the stepping stones to this./
and here i am, avoiding the world,/
penning this poem in a free app on my phone/
while Paris whispers sweet melodies from the speakers, wording my feelings/
much more poetically than i could ever write them;/
