A better life is possible - but only if you dive deep into your unconscious
We are used to skimming the surface of our emotions, distracting ourselves with endless doing. To discover what we really need, we must move beyond the shallows

I am 76 & I have had most of these vaccinations at one time or another. Also vaccinations against Covid, Tetanus, plus Cholera & Yellow Fever when travelling in foreign countries. These prevented me catching horrible diseases & dying a gruesome death. They did not harm me, they protected me!

I recently finished Regina Jackson and Saira Rao's incredibly helpful book: White Women, Everything You Already Know About Your Own Racism and How to Do Better. For all of us who know the learning will never be finished, I highly recommend. @race2dinner @sairaforcongress

A repost, courtesy of Lijo Joy. The start of school for parents (and their children) is like another New's Year's Day. I find as I get older, my resolutions tend towards trying to remember things I have already learned, but forget so easily. These are among them.

Higher education is changing, but the "formative parts of the college experience—growing up, making friends, and making mistakes—aren’t going anywhere," Isabel Fattal writes. The Wonder Reader explores what it feels like to be a young person right now:

“If the Epstein scandal teaches us anything, it is that America needs a dedicated and decently funded group of people whose job is not just to ask questions, but to find answers,” @helenlewis.bsky.social writes. “Let’s call them journalists.”

I loved this recent Atlantic article "What a Spiral of Silence can do to a Democracy" by Betsy Levy Paluck. She writes, "People interpret silence to mean quiet acceptance... which begets further misunderstanding about what a society actually collectively believes or wants." @theatlantic #resist

In this one line, poet and scholar Diamond Forde encapsulates the academic research supporting "the tyranny of the nice and the kind (Gilligan and Brown)" endured by women. That is, society's edict that proclaims: "Women! Be nice, or be ostracized." #poetry #feminism @poemsandcake.bsky.social

A federal court has struck down almost all of Trump's tariffs. Administration officials quickly challenged the ruling’s legitimacy, but the argument for judicial overreach here is "especially weak," Conor Friedersdorf writes:

Striking Down Trump’s Tariffs Isn’t a Judicial Coup. It’s a Vindication of the Rule of Law.
Congress, not the executive branch, has the power to enact tariffs.

My habit is quaint, I know, and there are downsides – but for those who value literature, the focus will shift to this: how do we prove we didn’t use AI?
