This male Kingfisher landing close by this week. For me, a new location for Kingfisher photography. Unfortunately the background is a bit distracting but considering that this twig is part of bush rather than a deliberately placed perch, I really cannot complain about the background.

The #Osprey migration season is in full swing and fortunately a number of Ospreys have paused their flights to central Africa with a fuel stop on the the River Axe in #Devon. Here's an unringed juvenile bird dropping down to take a close look at what's in the river. Seen this week.

Sometimes when driving along, I spot something in a tree and immediately realise what it is. No doubt. So time to turn around and see if I was right........ Yup, Juvenile Osprey in a tree!!! 😀 Always a wonderful sight in Somerset and Devon during the autumn migration period.

The view from Sidmouth, Devon on Friday evening where the Red Arrows were due to display. Sadly the display was reduced to a flypast and then on the day reduce to nothing due to a thunderstorm which prevented takeoff from RAF Mildenhall, Suffolk. ☹️

Canada #Geese seen #whiffing this morning as they flew over the trees and dropped into Chard Reservoir, #Somerset 🙂 Whiffing is an manoeuvre where Geese roll over and therefore drop rapidly due to lack of lift from the winds. In effect, a natural stall. Their feet also act as air brakes.

Last week this was a greenish clover field in which it was hard to spot the Hares. Not any more as this Hare has just discovered! Just for comparison - The field last week with a Roe Deer.

August 17th and the last fledglings of 2026? Barn Swallows on the inlet grill to one of the pumping stations along the River Parrett, Somerset. The Swallows nest down through this grill and it's a great nest side safe from predators.
