Don’t know if any of the folks adamant that generative AI will boost games businesses by fully automating the technical aspects of production have watched Star Trek. Captain Picard isn’t an ideal consumer. He gets his match 3 game by entering his Holodeck and saying “make it so!”

As well as traditional research, I am also a practitioner who explores research ideas through creative practice in art and games. In recent weeks I’ve been experimenting with oils and acrylics to explore how traditional art media can be used to represent digital and technological memories of games.

Lastly, I also have interests in inclusion and inclusive practices within games, play, and production. I recently presented at the RNIB Inclusive Design for Sustainability conference on this topic.

For the past few years I have been involved in R&D in collaboration with industry and international partners, through the Dundee-based creative cluster InGAME. My focus here has covered experimental games, applied games, and transnational collaboration, e.g.

As a researcher I have many interests across game creation and the culture of games. My work tends to focus on nostalgia and cultural memory in games, both in terms of how society remembers gaming and how cultural and mediated memory is represented within games.

Hello Bluesky! I’m hoping to rebuild over here with the aspiration of curating a less chaotic feed, one which will once again be reset to the interests in my bio! Happy to follow and be followed by anyone who works in, researches, or studies games, art, or education 🎮🎨📖

Most of the things I’d like to read are still on Twitter, but I’m not allowed to read them. Now waiting patiently for everyone to move over here…
