Urquhart Castle, 1997 – oil on board. ⚔ I created this as a front and back cover illustration for a college coursework brochure on Scotland. The castle overlooks Loch Ness in the heart of the Scottish Highlands. #urquhartcastle #scotland #scottishhighlands #lochness #landscapepainting #oilpainting

This is a study of a beautiful scarlet tiger moth that I've been working on. I found the pupa on the spine of a book in my studio back in the summer! Oil on canvas board. #oilpainting #oilstudy #wildlifepainting #scarlettigermoth #moth

"A Secret Place" — Oil on linen, 2003. #oilpainting While I'm working on new stuff, here's another old one. The landscape in which I set this scene is from my imagination but inspired by the countryside close to where I live.🧚‍♀️ #figurative #folklore #faerie #fairies #faery #fairy #landscapepainting

"Greasley Church" — Oil on canvas, 1999. #landscapepainting Happy Easter to those who celebrate. My local church, St Mary’s at Greasley, dates back to the 11th century. The only remains of the mediaeval building are a few stones in the east wall. #oilpainting #churchart #nottinghamshire #heritage

"Girl with a Ponytail" – Oil on linen, 2011. (14 x 18) #art #oilpainting This painting was removed from its frame and stretcher frame by a previous, unscrupulous gallery owner along with two other pictures and smuggled to New Zealand! Anyway, I got them back! 😤 www.robinarcher.com/product-page...

"Cornered" – Oil on canvas, 2004. #contemporaryart This painting was a submission piece (which was part of a series) for a fine art publisher. I felt I needed to do something a bit more contemporary. I needed a title, and "cornered" was the first word that popped into my head. #figurativepainting

"Study of Beth" – oil on canvas board, 6 x 8 inches. 2017. #portraitpainting #pochadebox After taking these photographs, I kept painting, and then I completely messed it up. Each new painting is uncharted territory; I just want to keep exploring. 😒 #oilpainting #fineartpainting #oilsketch #artist

"By The Window" – oil on linen, 2011. #oilpainting I wanted to keep this head study as simple as possible, using just a few colours and economy of effort, which, I think, lets the mood of the picture dominate. #oilstudy #oilsketch #portraitpainting #figurativepainting #fineartpainting #figurative

A small study (6 × 8) I did a few years ago, featuring the shed in my parents' back garden. Maybe I could have found a more romantic backdrop? 🤷‍♂️ #gardenshed Oil on board, 2019. #oilstudy #oilsketch #oilpainting #headstudy #figurativepainting #figurativeart #fineartpainting #portraiture #pleinair

Here's "Beauvale", in its frame which was put on by me, so if you would like to give this painting a new home, you may want to get a professional framer to redo it? 🤔 #artcollector Oil on linen, 2004. #oilpainting #landscapepainting #figurativepainting #figurative Prints: www.robinarcher.com/shop

"Amber" – Oil on linen, 2008. #portraitpainting Even though this painting wasn't a commissioned portrait of one of my nieces, I optimistically thought that my sister and brother-in-law would have loved it so much they would have to own it. Anyway, I still have it.🤷‍♂️ #oilpainting #figurativeart #art

Inspiration for Sunday. I love the realism of this painting by J. S. Sargent, in which he masterfully uses light and shadow to evoke the atmosphere of the scene. Venetian Onion Seller by John Singer Sargent. Oil on canvas, 1880 - 1882.

This is one of the paintings I'm working on right now. I've called it "Dream Falling". It represents feeling overwhelmed by certain situations with no clear way of escape, a sense of helplessness. Have you had any dreams about falling recently? #dreaming Oil on linen. #oilpainting #figurativeart
