Inktober Day Six: Ogre Would have liked to tweak the wording a bit more, but I have a 10:30 hockey start and I'm out of time.
A carved wooden half-mask depicting a demonic visage with a fanged maw and forked tongue. The image and text are overlaid on a backdrop resembling aged paper ornamented with detailed but faded filigree.

Inktober Day Five: Smack
A sap, which has a broad flat head attached to a short handle and a leather wrist strap affixed. An emblem of a skull with its left eye stitched over adorns the weighted head. There is ornate embroidering carved into the leather. The image and text are overlaid on a backdrop resembling aged paper ornamented with detailed but faded filigree.

Inktober Day Four: Cactus
A domed meat pie in a traditional pie tin. Lines of doughy spines radiate out from a central vent, looking vaguely cactus-like. The image and text are overlaid on a backdrop resembling aged paper ornamented with detailed but faded filigree.

Inktober Day Three: Miniature This was meant to be a quick exercise every day but I'm finding it surprisingly time-consuming? Hopefully I can stick it out for the duration.
A crudely-fashioned doll dressed in a small knitted tunic. The image and text are overlaid on a backdrop resembling aged paper ornamented with detailed but faded filigree.

Inktober day 2: 'relic'
A severed hand, covered in dripping wax, its middle finger extended. A wick extends frojm the tip of the said finger. The image and text are overlaid on a backdrop resembling aged paper ornamented with detailed but faded filigree.

Inktober Day One: Apple I knew I'd never have time to do a full illustration every day, but wanted to do something this year, so I'm just going to do a little drawing and an accompanying blurb - like they were inventory items in a game that doesn't exist. Very rusty with brush and ink!
An image of an apple rendered in ink washes so as to suggest a faint skull. Some kind of black ichor drips from underneath it. The image and text are overlaid on a backdrop resembling aged paper ornamented with detailed but faded filigree.

In the Banff townsite yesterday we found this crow who had perched himself on the roof of the public latrine and was yelling at everyone who walked by. I feel like if we’d stuck around a little longer maybe he would have given us a side quest.
A crow perched on the wooden roof of the public bathroom in Banff, Alberta, Canada. The crow is framed by the clouds in the far background, and there are mountains in the middle ground.

So this is where I've kind of landed for now. These are rough paintovers, so I'll have to actually make it look good, but I think having some toggleable elements that can fill space when needed (or disappear otherwise) will help with all of the empty space.
Revised versions of the mocked-up Lost Knight and Skeleton cards. Empty space has been filled, icons have been subdued and better organized, and the border art has been simplified in places so that it's less distracting.

Finally had a bit of free time (work is busy!) and I thought I'd poke at the Rune stuff I was working on a little bit. Mainly I wanted to try mocking up a couple of cards with actual text and stats to see how badly things fell apart. (Card text is blurred out since the copy doesn't belong to me.)
Mock-ups of a couple of work-in-progress cards for the solo ttrpg RUNE: one for the Lost Knight and the other for the Skeleton. They don't look great, candidly! The same mocked-up cards, this time marked up with blue text to highlight some of the many shortcomings of this iteration of these cards. These include:
- making note of awkward empty spaces
- areas where border art is too busy/drawing attention
- suggestions to introduce greater clarity by organizing the movement/attack/block icons in a consistent way

I've been quiet on here because I have my head down job-hunting and also because the world is on fire, but I've been tweaking some of my animations and did a more extensive overhaul on this one. I think it's a big improvement!

I work as an animator in the games industry, and my contract is coming up in a couple of weeks. My reach on this platform extends to literally tens - TENS! - of people, but if anyone knows of any relevant positions coming up, let me know. Toronto-area or remote-friendly ideally! (Reel link below)

I thought if I could use a dry erase marker to track health directly on laminated cards, maybe that would make it a bit easier. So I designed some tokens for the Skeleton and Lost Knight as a test, and it was so fun that I tried mocking up a matching enemy card in the same style.
A mockup for an enemy game card with placeholder text and values. It has a stylized border meant to look like elaborately-carved stone.

Some just-for-fun attempts to design enemy tokens for @gilarpgs.bsky.social 's solo ttrpg Rune. I played it earlier this year and absolutely loved it - especially playing it physically at the table - but did find it difficult sometimes to track everything with lots of enemies on the board.
A crescent moon illuminates a skeleton in tattered clothes, carrying a large two-handed axe. Behind him a stone path winds its way up a small rise to a small edifice, presumably a crypt. The back of a game token made to look like elaborately carved stone.
There is a skull in the centre, and game text, which reads 'The Grim Coast'.

I finally cut the cord and shut down my Twitter account. It was really only hockey that was keeping me there, but my love of hockey is outweighed by my hatred of fascism. These are some old Inktober drawings because I didn't find time to participate this year. Maybe Inkuary can be a thing?
A large robot crouching down to pet a very good dog.A bunch of goblins in lab coats hand-assembling an enormous homunculus, a la Frankenstein's monster. An angry, armoured pig warrior with a big sword and strong feelings about the world around him.A dude in a vaguely 18th-century looking coat with a spiked ball for a head contemplating a skull - his skull, perhaps?? - he is holding in his hand.

After a year of aggressively searching, and over 127 applications sent, I finally have a job again. The game industry is ROUGH right now, but it will be good to be animating again. I bought comics to celebrate!
Transformers and The Hunger and the Dusk graphic novels.

This is older...some friends were trying to get funding for a tactical indie game and I did some mock-ups and preliminary designs for them. I still like this, though, and think it would have been fun to make if we'd had the chance.

Maybe this is too nerdy to post, but I have like one follower and he already knows I'm a nerd, so I have nothing to lose. After I drew my nomad/bounty hunter for Notorious I decided to draw his equipment. And give him a name that hopefully gives off authentic Glup Shitto vibes.

I've been really interested in solo board games and rpgs lately, and kickstarted Notorious/Outsiders a while back. For those who are unfamiliar, it's a Star Wars-but-not bounty hunter rpg and it seems really cool. This is the character I rolled up, and I'm excited to actually play!

Anyway, here's my attempt at a self-portrait in the style of Dredge. Don't be alarmed: I am told I look considerably better hydrated in real life.
