Second Keynote at #ecsr2026 in Dublin from @distasioval.bsky.social. She gives some background information about experiments: use of them in published papers in ESR strongly increased over time. Almost no experimental study in 2013/earlier, now almost 70 papers with some kind of experimental design

6/ 2010 lag die SES-Segregation an Schulen (gemessen über SGB-II-Anteil) bei ~0.47, 2020 bereits bei ~0.55. Schulen driften also sozial weiter auseinander, obwohl ihre Einzugsgebiete durchmischter werden. Die Kopplung beider Ebenen bricht damit systematisch auf.

4/ Beispiel: Der Segregationsindex für Bewohner:innen mit Migrationsgeschichte sinkt 2010–2020 stark, für arab. Herkunft sogar auf das Niveau von Deutschen (o. Migr). Auch Kinderarmut wird räumlich weniger konzentriert. Die Idee der „auseinanderdriftenden Stadt“ greift für Wohnsegregation nicht (!).

Danke! Ich denke, dass der Hauptmechanismus darin liegt, dass es eine Abkehr davon gibt, genau an diesen Mechanismus (Sickereffekt) zu glauben, zumindest in räumlichen Kontexten, wo Neuvermietungsmieten deutlich über den Bestandsmieten liegen (vgl. unsere Appendix-Analysen A.23 im Paper)

We are taking advantage of a natural experiment: Berlin’s 2019 rent cap law — one of the boldest rent control experiments worldwide. Rents were frozen (and in many many cases lowered) until Germany’s constitutional court struck it down in 2021. And (see map below), reductions affected many 6/11

I was deeply saddened to learn of Richard Alba’s passing today by John's post on Facebook. I had the privilege of being his student during an academic exchange year at CUNY in 2017. His seminar and our conversations left a lasting mark on me both intellectually and personally. 1/4
