This pickup driver couldn't see an entire car directly in front of him due to his absurdly high hood. Drove into it twice, the second time pushing it into the intersection instead of getting out to see what he had hit.

My view of the 2nd Annual Portland Parallel Parking Competition this past Sunday, driving my wife's 2010 Honda Fit. This was a really fun event, and bigger than I was expecting!

I'm trying to sell one of our cars right now, which would make us a one older car + ebikes house. The car I'm trying to sell is really making a good case for why we need less cars, the day I listed it for sale someone tried to steal it, now that I've fixed that damage the AC has stopped working!

I think "I can't reply in email. Will call." is the first Epstein email I've seen where I'm not having to read it two or more times to figure out what they're trying to say through the spelling errors, typos and weird abbreviations. He even used punctuation!

way to the airport. It's really obvious they should just have chargers on site, give you a fully charged car and let you return it empty. My first job was at an equipment rental place in 2002, we had chargers for our electric equipment and did not check charge levels on returns.

I had a trip where I thought I'd rent an EV, the total distance I was going to need to drive was less than 200 miles, so it seemed like that would be easy no need to deal with charging probably. Then I found out the car might not be charged when I pick it up, and I'd have to charge it on the...

I'm sure someone else has said this before, but if you ever find yourself doing anything with an amount of money you refer to as your "life savings" you need to stop and seriously reconsider.

My first car was a 1991 Civic Si hatchback, which actually had about the same footprint as the Fit. The Fit has so much more space inside, in addition to four doors. It's kind of dumb the Fit is now considered too small, when that older Civic was a popular and normal car.

Robert @robertstory.bsky.social · 22/12/2025
I know a number of US Fit owners, my wife included, who have vowed to never buy another car unless Honda brings the Fit back. At this point my wife's is accumulating about 1,000 miles per year, it has a good shot at lasting another 40 years!

Honda should at least bring the Fit back occasionally, like the McRib.

We had a Portland building inspector at our house today, as he was wrapping up he asked "do you want a sticker?" I was on my phone emailing him a couple photos, before even looking up I said "yes please." So that's the story I'll have forever when someone asks "whose cat is that?"
A small, roughly 2 inch by 2 inch square sticker, the graphic on the sticker is a photo of a black and white cat.

I think in a sane world the conservative's viewpoint would be that all we need to do to address climate change is switch to electric cars, while progressives would be fighting for less car dependency and less need for large battery long range cars.

expert on them but it seemed like they have a limit on headlight height, you can exceed it but then you have to aim the lights downward at a steeper angle.

Robert @robertstory.bsky.social · 25/11/2025
You're probably aware but this is already done on some cars. Like on the Hyundai Kona the lower lights that stylistically look like fog lights are actually the headlights, and the higher lights are just running lights. I got curious about this and looked up South Korea's headlight laws, I'm not an

So to the question of why go up to $10.3bn if your employees only want to sell $6.6bn, OpenAI wouldn't have known the employees only wanted to sell $6.6bn. The share price and maximum number of shares is settled with the buyers, and is then offered to the employees. It's not an active negotiation.
020
Robert @robertstory.bsky.social · 03/10/2025
overvalue things we have in our possession. Some OpenAI employees probably do believe the company is worth more. I have personally held onto shares I thought were overvalued because I thought probably the value would still go up before it crashes.

Robert @robertstory.bsky.social · 03/10/2025
In a very basic sense if someone offers to buy a stock from you at $723, and you say no, that indicates you think the stock is worth more than $723. The reality for the employees is more complicated. Most likely have way too much of their theoretical net worth in OpenAI stock. We tend to...

Robert @robertstory.bsky.social · 03/10/2025
that's how much the buyers get. If employees had collectively submitted $15bn, then the employees do not get to sell all the shares they offered. In short OpenAI did not try to sell $10.3bn and only sold $6.6bn. Investors tried to buy $10.3bn and employees only sold $6.6bn.

Robert @robertstory.bsky.social · 03/10/2025
some amount, in this case 14.2 million shares, or $10.3bn. Employees with stock then receive an email that says you can sell your stock for $723 per share. You have until a set date to let us know how many shares you want to sell. Employees submitted a total of $6.6bn of shares to sell, so...

is not publicly traded, they can't just sell that stock whenever they want. To allow employees to sell their stock, the company will go out and find funds that want to buy some of the company stock. OpenAI comes up with a stock price (in this case I think $723), and the fund offers to buy...

I think you may have an incomplete understanding of how these purchase offers work. I'm not an expert or lawyer or anything, but I've been through a bunch of them as an ex-employee of a not-publically-traded tech company. Employees get part of their compensation as stock, but because the company...

It does seem unnecessary to brand wholesale amounts. My theory is they know the police and media won't be able to help themselves showing the weird corporate branding, and somehow that helps the sellers identify the confiscated drugs as theirs.

At least in the US car manufacturers have convinced people you have to buy a large pickup to tow anything, even though at this point they've made subcompacts large and powerful enough to tow a pretty decently sized trailer. My 2014 Hyundai Accent has no problem towing a 5x8 trailer.
Hyundai Accent with a 5 foot by 8 foot UHaul trailer attached, filled with yard work debris.

Robert @robertstory.bsky.social · 12/09/2025
It's especially unreasonable to be driving these every day because they aren't even that good at the hauling tasks. You can either rent a Transit from Home Depot and carry 12 foot lumber without it getting wet, or get a 5x8 foot trailer from UHaul and not have to worry about scratching your bed!

This is a more expensive version of a guy thinking his quick release steering wheel and fixed back eBay seats are going to increase the resale value of his Civic. Same advice in both cases: Put it back to stock, sell the extra junk on Facebook marketplace for whatever you can get for it!

I've interacted with people who have everything they need to ride to get groceries and yet are unsure if they can do it because it's just been hammered into them that bikes are only for recreation. But certainly many people in America do not have safe infrastructure to ride a bike anywhere useful!

Robert @robertstory.bsky.social · 15/08/2025
A person who has no trouble riding for hours, has a rear rack that can carry 150lbs, like yeah why wouldn't you be able to ride a couple miles to the grocery store and pick up 20 lbs of stuff? For a lot of people it's just a completely foreign concept though!

Retired people who will load their bikes up in their SUVs, drive to a state park, and go riding for like 50+ miles loaded up with all sorts of clothes and supplies. Like once a week youd get someone asking "hey this is kind of a crazy idea, but has anybody ever ridden to the grocery store?"

The idea that bikes are just for recreation is so ingrained in people that even after buying and riding a bike they still have a hard time imagining using it for basic transportation. We have a couple Lectric brand ebikes and I spent a little time on Facebook groups for them, which have a lot of...

There are a bunch of different alloys that get called stainless steel, some are more corrosion resistant than others. It seems in line with other Tesla decisions to think they could get away with less corrosion resistance than is needed!
