A statement from Roberts Poll staff regarding the Michigan-WMU game. We strive for consistency and accuracy in our ratings. Any deviation from official results requires careful deliberations and a removal from personal biases. We reserve the right to reverse this if evidence changes our minds.
Yesterday, we had the pleasure of watching Western Michigan have a historic game against Michigan, live and in person. I am thrilled with the Bronco performance and acknowledge my bias.

At the end of regulation, WMU held a 12-7 lead. Video review determined an extra second was added to the clock, which allowed Michigan a free scoring attempt. Michigan scored, causing the official score to be 13-12.

The crux of the controversy is which clock was synced - the NBC broadcast or the Big Ten replay booth. Both claim to have synced their clocks to the on-field action, but one of them must have had a 1-2 second drift in the synchronization. Drift is not abnormal for a live broadcast, but has obvious ramifications on a game. Because both use similar technology, synced in the same way, neither clock is reliable until we have a neutral method of confirming the sync at the time of the play. This can come from any footage of the first hail mary with the play and clock in the same image. Without a re-sync, it is our editorial stance that both NBC and B1G are telling their truth and no malice was intended.

Therefore, Roberts Poll staff have to decide how to rank this game: Award a win to Michigan or WMU, Vacate the game, or apoly special scoring.

At the end of the day, the Roberts Poll is dedicated to consistency and accurate ratings. To award Michigan regular win points would cause the ratings to not reflect the strengths of these two teams accurately. Vacating the game would disproportionately harm WMU, who dominated most of the game. I refuse to use special scoring because it would be logistically difficult to maintain consistency with my rating tool.

Therefore, Roberts Poll acknowledges that Michigan won the game, but awards points to a WMU victory (UM -55/WMU +85). This is the most accurate distribution of points that reflects the first 60 minutes of the game. Please note that our depictions of records will indicate a Michigan loss/WMU win despite this acknowledgement.

A 5-0 UMass going into the Miami game is entirely plausible.

Thank you for not holding your breath. The big news is that NIU has jot yet updated their field to MWC branding.

Am I winning yet? Fun fact: There is a player with very low stats with no assigned positions that cannot be added to a roster.

Between this and calling the High Point upset, I think I'm doing alright. I have a few wrong picks, but my entire sweet 16 is still intact. Nervous about picking an Akron-Miami (OH) rematch in the Elite 8, but I stand by it.

We're considering a change in the ranking scheme and would love your input! Basically, instead of a 1-to-1 point system for margin-of-victory, it will be weighted such that a blowout win maxes out at 40 pts and evens out the MOV points a bit.
Proposed change in Top 25 rankings with the new scheme. Weirdly, the changes remained consistent in team clusters, highlighted for clarity.Chart showing the proposed change in margin-of-victory. My data analysis skills at midnight suck shit, so give me a shout if you have ANY questions!

Parody of the White House Autism Action Plan that reads, "Whoa, he has trouble with the snap! And the ball is free! It’s picked up by Michigan State! Jalen Watts-Jackson – and he scores! On the last play of the game! Unbelievable!"

For real, autism and mental health are not joking matters. Michigan State was offsides, but that is far less serious.
