What I mean is loud. Sort of the heavy metal of traditional music. I mean no disrespect.

Very aggressive instrument. The Tannahill Weavers go through pipers the way Spinal Tap goes through drummers.

I think at the very least if someone complains after sexual intercourse it has to be very bad sex.

You can watch Trump's inhibitions draining away on a daily basis now.

Be thankful for small favors: Trump doesn't have the patience to oversee a Newspeak Dictionary.

I think I've seen this picture before but it was with Maximilian Schell and he was pretending to be a concentration camp commandant.

You have to understand the lingo here. "We have to talk" means "I get to lecture you and you have to listen."

Mainstream news media are the kind of people who would try to appear neutral when interned in a concentration camp. It's like they know no other way of being.

There's a means of enforcing that and it's called impeachment, but you need an honest legislature.

It's possible to do good things with it, as witness Alan Moore and Frank Miller, but normally Batman comics have a certain level they don't much above. High water mark of the normal level would be Denny O'Neill and Neal Adams.

It was the wrong war, but to give them their due, people who were on the scene like Michael Kelly saw the plague of violence that was going to engulf the Middle East and thought something ought to be done to stop it. Bush Minor's war didn't do that.

Honestly, I always assumed Saddam was holding a little something back, and was actually surprised when they didn't find anything in the end. I never thought it was worth going to war over.

Spent a certain amount of time this year going to concerts of people I started following when I was young and being reaminded that they're older than I am. Martin Carthy, Graham Parker, Peter Stampfel, Nick Lowe . . . it begins to seem like the last look around.

The phenomenon of the tenured radical becomes more understandable when you find out that academics are paid about the same as the better class of clerical worker. You can see how they'd thing of themselves as the proletariat of the educated classes.

Millions of people voluntarily pay more for their employer-provided insurance so they can go to the fancy doctors. If they were compelled to go into a Medicare-for-All system thew would get care that they'd consider inferior to what they'd been getting.
