A great evening with friends earlier this week at the new Blue Note London seeing the great Jamie Cullum at the start of his two day stint-some brand new numbers, favourites and the odd classic Standard making it a very special evening for me. An excellent ensemble demonstrating real energy!

Magnificent St Laurence, Ludlow, , an absolute Marcher gem of a parish church, with the most magnificent choir and setting in beautiful Ludlow. Good to meet PCC members to discuss how help can be given to develop new heating and energy solutions. All part of our heritage and our future!

As promised, more Gaudi! This time Casa Vicens by Gaudí in what was Gràcia village, now part of urban Barcelona. The house was built as a holiday home and has a languid, elegant feeling with cleverly designed windows. As a Lego builder I think that Casa Vincens is a prime candidate for a new model.

Some impressions of Barcelona. It’s been over thirty years since my last visit and the city has grown much more affluent. Always a pushover for Gaudi. A lot of demand for tickets to Sagrada Família so here is the lego version instead! More Gaudi to come!

Enchanting Stourhead - a dry summer is sending some of the trees autumnal already and made for an unusual summer visit but the house, lake and Pantheon are well worth coming to if you haven’t been. Picked up some lovely second hand Folio books too! @nationaltrust.org.uk

Stunning Leominster Priory is really two churches in one. You can see Norman and Gothic here in layers. A space that is uplifting, inspiring and a challenge for the dedicated team who are working hard to ensure that worship and community all come together @churchofengland.org

Back on BBC Newsnight talking early release of prisoners and the night time economy. The new Justice Secretary will have to unpick the mistakes of the Starmer government in order to prevent obvious injustices and some of the proposed solutions can’t be done in weeks.

A powerful Glyndebourne production of Britten’s Billy Budd at this year’s Festival. The setting made the ship feel suitably claustrophobic. Great performances but Allen Clayton’s Starry Vere stood out. Thomas Mole, playing Billy, wasn’t even born when I last saw this opera 😂.He sang it wonderfully.

Although it wasn’t to be one of our Home Nations lifting the @fifaworldcup-x.bsky.social Cup this time (although @england got the closest to it since 1966), G and I were relieved that Spain prevailed. We kept our spirits up by finishing the Lego World Cup that is nearly as heavy as the real thing.

As promised, some more photos of the grandeur of Durham Cathedral - the tombs of the Venerable Bede and Saint Cuthbert - and the original Sanctuary Ring, which was never a door knocker as Simon Groom suggested on Blue Peter! It was replaced by a replica in the 1980s.
