I assume this is a case of trying to match a stylized vertical japanese logo gone wrong? Yeah, that's exactly what happened.

Or the Avatar films. For all their writing flaws, the visuals are colorful and clear and vibrant. It's a creative *choice* to make a film dark.

Much of the movie is cgi, and it's color graded at the end. They can make it as vibrant and colorful as they want. It doesn't need to be Speed Racer levels of neon, but they chose brown and dark. Like LotR filmed a battle scene at night, in the rain, and it's still perfectly bright and clear.

Robby Bevard @robbybevard.bsky.social · 09/09/2026

Entire movie was muddy and dark, huge chunks of it were filmed at night, and color graded to be completely desaturated. Kara was in drunk angry mode the entire time. Meanwhile the comic was incredibly colorful and optimistic. (she was only drinking in the first issue. )

I had allll the pieces in place except for that one damn voucher.

You just think that for now. You'll keep coming back. I'm trying to naneinf RIGHT NOW but the damn second director's cut voucher never showed up.

This was the first Superman comic I can remember ever picking up. Because it had him wearing a different costume and he seemed to be turning into some kind of monster. It's issue 42. And it explicitly says it's "Part 4" in the logo. Sometimes you just gotta jump into the deep end.

Robby Bevard @robbybevard.bsky.social · 21/02/2026

Well it's not a second head but.... there's a second copy of the Mona Lisa made at the exact same time by DaVinci's assistant. That was stored and preserved much better and has EYEBROWS.

Every primary that Joe Biden won. She was on the same ballot as vice president. That's all the blue ones.

Robby Bevard @robbybevard.bsky.social · 29/12/2025

And that applies to all art, not just manga. If you flip the Mona Lisa it suddenly looks really weird too. The structure and shadows and flow suddenly look *wrong*. It was meant to be seen in the direction it was made.

080

Robby Bevard @robbybevard.bsky.social · 29/12/2025

Flipping reveals weaknesses in line weight and the artist's natural hand orientation that just don't exist in the normal direction. It looks lopsided. Also, words that are part of the *art* then needs to be erased so the words can be rewritten. Eye patches, dominant hands, etc. also get flipped...

Robby Bevard @robbybevard.bsky.social · 26/11/2025

Or make it a side bar if that's too much work and just give the entire miniseries a consistent branding. So many easy solutions to this!

120

Robby Bevard @robbybevard.bsky.social · 26/11/2025

Come on! It would be super easy to just stack the logos. Wouldn't even take any extra space. Look, I did this in under a minute and I don't even have the files in layers.

Ginga Sengoku Gun'yūden Rai, the52 episode Samurai Space opera from 1994 based on the Johji Manabe manga, that is known as Thunder Jet in much of the world, and currently only has an incredibly bad bootleg translation? Barring that, the OVAs Outlanders and Capricorn from the same creator?

Sure, if you poll red states. Nationwide though it's nowhere near that high. Because the stories *I'm* seeing are 20 points lower.

Takahashi works towards the black and white art, and in general her characters look better with inked hair, it balances things. Even *Lum* has inked hair. Outside of Shampoo, she was completely random with hair colors whenever she did color pages, though red and pink were the most common for Ranma.

Compare them side by side. As an example, because I happen to have this screencap in my feed. Original anime? Akane jumps straight to anger. Manga and new anime? Goofy surprise. Reaction differences like that *constantly*. Those nuances add up to them eventually being different characters.

And then for the Bluray... something entirely different. No crazy 90's friend, and no cute girl, and no super weird scene... just showcasing the roadtrip and trying to evoke old adventure serials.

000

Robby Bevard @robbybevard.bsky.social · 11/03/2025

And then years later when they did the DVD release, another new cover, focusing on the action and oddness more than the cute girl. I have no idea what's up with the smiling fish.

210

Robby Bevard @robbybevard.bsky.social · 11/03/2025

The American VHS release just did a wholly new cover... that heavily featured the new character played by Pauly Shore, Bobby, but not Pete or PJ, while putting Max into his regular clothes that he wears most of the film. Roxanne was on model here though.

100

Robby Bevard @robbybevard.bsky.social · 11/03/2025

Side note on this one because I found it neat when hunting for the image, it's interesting that the original poster art was clearly made based on earlier designs, and that when they redid it for other releases, they swapped the colors to be appropriate... and added a very off-model Roxanne.
