Robbie @robbiemarka.bsky.social · 10hInsect night #2 - Mimic I remember this not being great back in the day but by today's standards it's an entertaining enough creature feature. It benefits greatly from having a decent cast, great sets and some semi-ok practical effects. 010

Robbie @robbiemarka.bsky.social · 11hInsect night #1 Phase IV Weird avant-garde British sci-fi film which is part educational treatise and part invasion movie. Strangely compelling and oddly soporific. I for one welcome our new ant overlords. 010
Robbie @robbiemarka.bsky.social · 13hI signed up to Paramount Plus to watch the Friday 13th films and they don't even have III. No one does. What kind of nonsense is this? 100
Robbie @robbiemarka.bsky.social · 12/10/2026It's amazing how many expensive TV shows are being made for next to no one to watch. Every time I take on a 7 day trial or a month's membership I'm shocked to find something quite flashy which I've never heard of before. 000
Robbie @robbiemarka.bsky.social · 12/10/2026This always impresses me with its restraint. So tempting to speed things up but instead gradually and subtly builds up tension before pressing the starter gun. An exercise in quiet terror. 000
Robbie @robbiemarka.bsky.social · 12/10/2026After the flare and ingenuity of the original this is a huge comedown. The direction and cinematography, is lazy, boring and bordering on shoddy. The story is almost completely absent. The tension non-existent. The acting poor. The kills are almost all boring. Such a waste. 000
Robbie @robbiemarka.bsky.social · 12/10/2026They need to do something about renting digital films. Fine if you're a family but just another singles tax. I'd hardly call it a deal to pay twice as much as I'd pay at the cinema to see a reduced price film! It's no wonder so many pirate films. 010
Robbie @robbiemarka.bsky.social · 11/10/2026So, in a year's time you're telling me a bog standard room in a B&B will cost £120 per night. No breakfast. 000
Robbie @robbiemarka.bsky.social · 11/10/2026Camp Miasma, aka we got free use of a Counting Crows song and we'll use every second. I'm sure it makes a great essay, but it's a bad horror film. The bizarre soundtrack & perfunctory attempts to period it were weird as well. Jeez. 000
Robbie @robbiemarka.bsky.social · 11/10/2026Do Americans spend 2 hours per day in the gym? How on earth do you eat so much food and not all be huge? Every time I watch people eating meals I wonder how anyone gets past 40. 000
Robbie @robbiemarka.bsky.social · 11/10/2026Every time I watch this I'm impressed with something else. The fantastic use of colours. Of light and dark. The clever choices of shots. The brilliant location. The rain. 000
Robbie @robbiemarka.bsky.social · 10/10/2026Putting famous people in an exorcist film does not make it good. I know young people struggle with the concept of criticism. 000
Robbie @robbiemarka.bsky.social · 10/10/2026Can we just establish that if you're gushing over shit to look good then you're dead to me. 000
Robbie @robbiemarka.bsky.social · 08/10/2026Every time I watch Demons I really want to watch the film in the cinema. 110
Robbie @robbiemarka.bsky.social · 08/10/2026I assumed this was just a badly worded title. It is not. 110
Robbie @robbiemarka.bsky.social · 07/10/2026I'm not sure who thought anyone needed a Carrie TV series? Hardly a complex epic story to tell. 020
Robbie @robbiemarka.bsky.social · 07/10/2026I forget how good an actual film this is. All the time with the insects and Pleasence is really fascinating, It's refreshing to see the focus on the weird stuff and not the boring school bullying you usually get. Jennifer Connolly is brilliant as well, punching well above her age. 000
Robbie @robbiemarka.bsky.social · 07/10/2026Has lots of really nice elements. A curious offbeat and downbeat take on the assassin, riffing on the likes of Melville. Starts off strong but just doesn't really amount to much in the end. 000
Robbie @robbiemarka.bsky.social · 06/10/2026A fascinating twisting and turning plot, some impressive backdrops and interiors. Maybe a little lacklustre on the actual killing front, but an entertaining giallo nonetheless. 020
Robbie @robbiemarka.bsky.social · 06/10/2026I really enjoyed the first half of this and Neill is always extremely watchable. It does lose focus a fair bit in the second half and I struggled to give it my full attention. I would have liked to have seen more intrigue. 000
Robbie @robbiemarka.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Very strange take on an age-old formula. There are all the right ingredients but I found myself zoning out. Not exciting enough to ignore the substance but not enough substance to keep it going through the multiple quieter periods. 000
Reposted by Robbie Dr. Jack Brown @drjackbrown.bsky.social · 04/10/2026If you're a time-traveler, and you just arrived in 2026, here's a synopsis: 8368109
Robbie @robbiemarka.bsky.social · 04/10/2026I'd never heard of this before but it's a pretty decent horror/sci-fi bodysnatchers yarn, made by a committed central performance from James Farentino. Lots to love here and much smalltown 'charm'. 2181
Robbie @robbiemarka.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Rob Zombie's sick and twisted spankbank directorial debut looks good, but that's about it. He likes lots of films, but doesn't like writing plots or dialogue. Paper thin no-music video. 100
Robbie @robbiemarka.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Some nice effects and always good to have a creepy old house. It doesn't really capitalise on the premise though and the end is just a bit of a cop-out. The fact I've seen this before and didn't realise says it all really! 000
Robbie @robbiemarka.bsky.social · 01/10/2026The last of the three mothers trilogy is pretty bad. Asia Argento attempts to act are disastrous. There are some nice bits and pieces but in the end it's a really pedestrian Argento film which feels like a poor copy. 100
Robbie @robbiemarka.bsky.social · 01/10/2026If there's not a band called Asia Argento's fake tears, then why not? Watching The Mother of Tears. 100
Robbie @robbiemarka.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Fascinating and decidedly unhinged Italian horror which takes a series of wild swings. I would love to understand the thought process behind some of the scenes! 010
Robbie @robbiemarka.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Wreath making is the biggest scam going. £40/50 to make something using things that are available for free! 000
Robbie @robbiemarka.bsky.social · 29/09/2026It has its moments. It does some nice work on the zombie front in terms of maggot action. It's also surprisingly tense in small stretches. It is largely one-paced though and while the cast are crazed that doesn't always help. Has the strangest incest moment in film history! 000
Robbie @robbiemarka.bsky.social · 29/09/2026I really enjoyed this. Especially the first half which does tension really well. The whole thing is highly enjoyable and does exactly what you'd want a slasher to do. 000
Robbie @robbiemarka.bsky.social · 29/09/2026I got rid of Netflix a while back. There's next to nothing decent being added to it. A few Asian films. The occasional decent series or film. Not worth the money unless you've never had it before. 001
Robbie @robbiemarka.bsky.social · 28/09/2026Decent enough slasher which is both very 'of its time' and clever in the way it approaches the visual horror. There's a distinct lack of tension, which lets it down. 000

Robbie @robbiemarka.bsky.social · 28/09/2026Why are all the fascists so small? Tiny little angry men. 010
Robbie @robbiemarka.bsky.social · 27/09/2026Ferrara's trashy mix of revenge pulp and psychological meltdown. Scuzzy and very '80s. 000
Robbie @robbiemarka.bsky.social · 27/09/2026Where's the horror film about a killer gruesomely murdering people playing music, videos, video games etc out loud on public transport? Call it 'Hero'. 000
Robbie @robbiemarka.bsky.social · 27/09/2026It doesn't always work and it is constrained by its budget but I really liked this. It's nice to see a filmmaker approaching a subject like this from a philosophical angle. The lack of show works as well. 000
Robbie @robbiemarka.bsky.social · 27/09/2026Bizarrely, a film as relevant as it was when it was made. A strange meta-political treatise on America which never lets its anger fade. 000
Robbie @robbiemarka.bsky.social · 27/09/2026I am watching a sofa advert AND IT IS NOT CHRISTMAS What has happened to the world? I can no longer trusts anything. 000
Robbie @robbiemarka.bsky.social · 27/09/2026Only a couple of weeks to go until fields become full of supermarket pumpkins and middle-class parents pay 3 times the price so their children can pick them'. What a world to live in. 000
Robbie @robbiemarka.bsky.social · 27/09/2026Charity shops are there to remind us that a surprising amount of people bought Terminator Genysis and that a surprising amount want to part with The Untouchables. 000
Robbie @robbiemarka.bsky.social · 26/09/2026I find it really odd that the self-declared bonnet-nonce 'patriots' keep going on about women and girls when their own movement is run and full of people with a history of violence, often against women and girls. I'm pretty sure their offending rates are higher than people who arrive on boats. 000
