I'm not American, but I see it a lot where I live as well in rural communities. People assume it's borrowing, but it's often not the case. Rotation jobs on mines/oil rigs and property is much cheaper to own. Entirely different lifestyle. Big salary, lower expenses.

I'd even prefer the title "Not Miami Vice 06"

Gonna be *that guy* here and say yes - you should help your friends move even though it's a lot of work and getting paid in pizza.

It's very easy to make an entire brand based around something you don't like - such as car culture. But you're also making a lot of assumptions about other peoples values and trying to speak up for them without being asked. I don't like car culture either, but won't speak for strangers on it.

You claim your brand is based on good judgement but it seems it's based on judging people's situation and making assumptions based on single interactions when they're obviously struggling and using it to promote something else entirely. There doesn't seem to be much authenticity here, honestly.

It's clear you don't care about independence. But you're entirely dismissive about independence being a clear value of his. The situation you're describing is literally someone struggle to park in a parking spot. Pretty low risk of anyone getting injured when moving that slowly.

That's exactly how your original post reads being completely honest. Now, I wasn't there so I don't know how severe this was but considering he made it to the parking lot - do you think it's possible you're making a lot of judgement calls on a single interaction? Seems he values his independence.

Maybe seniors should undergo reassessment for the ability to drive to ensure there's no severe cognitive decline. But to act as if they're all being forced to drive, rather than it being a series of individual choices isn't accurate. To take that away would be crossing the line into oppression.

Forcing seniors to give up their ability to drive based on poor parking isn't how we treat the rest of society when it comes to driving records, insurance, etc. Many seniors in many areas benefit from independence and freedom of driving, and have spent their entire lives contributing to society.

If you had to hold up traffic on a busy street to assist someone impeding the flow of traffic I would 100% understand the point. But I watch fully functional able bodied healthy people struggle with parking every day. To say it's a danger to himself and others is a huge reach.

Are we sure this is a matter of someone being forced into a car? From what you're saying this is an older person struggling to park in a space, which in reality is usually a negligence issue for drivers of all ages. It seems more of an attempt to force seniors out of cars, and forfeit independence.

I finished Below. I don't know what to say about the last two episodes besides "whut" but I'll try not to bad mouth it too much considering it's not often we ever have something this scale made here.

So has anyone started putting their Christmas cactus in the dark more yet for buds or do I hold out for a few more weeks on this

Rob Abraham @robabraham.bsky.social · 11/10/2026
It's getting cold I had to take both my cactus (Iggy + Bowie) in from the front porch. They've been having a growth spurt and I didn't want to kill their vibe, so I set them up in what I call "fern gully" alongside my partners basil plants. Hope they keep on growing. (1 of 3 of my indoor gardens.)

It's weird how in 2026 people are trying to paint Dimebag Darrell as this wholesome figure. "Brother Dime," - nah fuck off with that. He wasn't your brother, he was a racist piece of shit who played guitar in the KKK's favorite metal band and if he were alive today he would be a huge MAGA guy.

*I always politely decline to speak to them and shoo them away from the door as quickly as I can without being an asshole. Even though I consider knocking on my front door to give me a QR Code about the bible saving me as harassment. Think I gotta get a little Buddha for my window to relay this.

In the last few months I've had Jehovah's Witnesses show up on my front step twice and once to my job site. They're either convinced Newfoundland is ready for a Jehovah takeover, or they're stalking me from afar and convinced I am the devil itself and share a "I can fix him" attitude.

I said "stay where your at I'll come where your too" twice today. I wouldn't have thought much of it but now I'm self conscious I sound like Josh Hartnett and apparently that's still bothering me

I personally like to think there were actually more dudes that did this than stuck around. I know that's totally wrong but I still like to pretend.

One really fun thing about watching Below has been pointing out the exact locations of places as they pop up on screen, right down to "look - it's the start of that hiking trail that brings out to the Brigus lighthouse." This one was easy though, they filmed a scene in that covered wharf.

2026: "Stop tormenting." "You are infringing on MY RIGHT to torment, if I want and choose too. You CAN'T tell me that I'm NOT ALLOWED to torment. And seeing how you're choosing to react emotionally instead of with logic and reason, I'm actually going to double down just to watch your reaction 😊"

Can't help but notice a large increase in extremely bad content captioned "broke people don't even make sense" made by young gen z dudes. Is this the road we're on? Did gen z dudes turn into uneducated boomers over night without facing the reality of society or something?

Watched the third episode of Below. Once again - you can really pick apart the real Newfoundland accents from the fake ones. But then there's Charlie Heaton who is doing way better of a job at portraying a baymen than I would expect an actor to accomplish. It's weird being like "I know this guy."

Rob Abraham @robabraham.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
Funny how I spent the last 24 hours being mildly critical of Below because of the Newfoundland representation yet I'm literally still in my dirty carpenter clothes, third black horse and saying "should go down by the water for a look now da once" because it is actually what we do. They hit the mark.

They said the same thing when I pitched a Viagra Commercial based around a super long conga line of old dudes fully erect going into a pharmacy to pick up their prescription. Apparently no wanted that either.

These are the same idiots that read "15 minute cities" and say "THE LIBS WANT TO RESTRICT OUR MOVEMENT AND DICTATE WHERE WE CAN GO" when no one said anything remotely similar to that ever.

Hence why they use slurs/say ridiculously inappropriate stuff on Facebook for a reaction. The kid who never got attention in class that gets up and does something super disruptive for attention can easily grow up to write social media posts that can ruin their entire lives.

Face to face, can't be through social media. My theory is these guys get into a space in their head (delusion) where they believe EVERYONE is on their side, because when they said a joke in grade 6 everyone laughed. They don't factor in that time moves one direction, it ain't ever going back.

Rob Abraham @robabraham.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
Oh yeah, I was paraphrasing there. Personally, I never engage and just say "oof someone is on the booze again" I never thought of it as the "Dad voice" - but I often take a tone to tell these guys how "somehow we all grew older yet you take pride in acting younger. No one is impressed".

Rob Abraham @robabraham.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
Sometimes I scroll past a satisfying double whammy when he comments on his own status upset no one is engaging and starts tossing the "get a sense of humor" card around. Or, the most infuriating response he likes to post when people comment "hey don't use slurs" he responds "jokes" Then deletes it.

Is this a guy you went to high school with prompting this? I bet it is. I'm older than 28 by a decent number and I still see the same guy from high school post a dozen Facebook statuses every weekend, filled with slurs and "jokes" he writes while drunk and typically deletes them Monday morning.

I also really hope people understand that by 1986 we were pretty well caught up with the times and the whole "resettlement" plot is just off by timing. We were all done resettling by the 70's, minus some more resettling in the 00's and more will come I'm sure. It's just a TV series, I tell myself.

Whoa - number one on Netflix today. I expected this to hit the top ten but didn't expect to see the top spot. This is all anyone can talk about on the island today. At this point I'm nervous that Josh Hartnett's worst Newfoundland accent in the history of the world is going to become the standard.

Yeah it's a 6 episode mini series. Second episode was also good. Spookier than I was expecting.

I finished the second episode of Below. Genuinely enjoying it while simultaneously being a tad bit offended by Josh Hartnett 's accent but I think I'll get over that by the time the series is over. Charlie Heaton however; hats off to his solid portrayal of a baymen. Dude did some homework. It shows.

I've drank my weight in iceberg water/beer/vodka over the years and it's not something we just go and pluck out of the ocean. Tried that as a kid once but then shit started to float around the top of my coke and Fadder got mad at me. I know people who do it, but it's not common or advised.

Rob Abraham @robabraham.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
I watched the first episode, about to start the second. Honestly so far it's pretty decent, as far as modern sea monster stories go. My criticisms so far are pretty much based on being from here and not liking things that miss the mark. Honestly that's me just being picky and "that guy". I think.

Actually I'll be honest, dude from Stranger Things does a pretty cute accent. Not perfect, but 300 times better than Josh Hartnett 's accent being so off it's raising me blood pressure.

Rob Abraham @robabraham.bsky.social · 08/10/2026
The guy from Stranger Things does a 6/10 "deadly bys" -I say it on a professional level, 10 times a day easy.

Josh Hartnett has the worst Newfoundland accent I've ever heard. Holy fuck he sounds like a Californian trying to sound Irish.

I got 10 seconds into Below and yelled at my TV. 1986?!?! THE RESETTLEMENT HOUSE FLOATING STUFF WAS DECADES BEFORE 1986. ROTTED.

I'm about to press play on Below and keep thinking about how the last thing Netflix filmed here before this was the documentary on the titan disaster.

I'm a Blue Jays fan and at one point waited for 21 seasons just to see them play a single post season game. The sad thing is last year's world series game 7 going to 11 innings means I need to accept the fact I will likely die before I ever get to see them win the world series. Baseball is brutal.

I probably sound like a dick but just wait until you meet the 35 year old still hung up on some cartoon they watched between dinner and homework back in 1998. Big difference between still enjoying cartoons and making them the foundation of your personality as an adult. Huge difference, big red flag
