@sarahwoodberrydown.bsky.social hi- FYI the Chatsworth Road camera has been knocked off angle (it's now pointing at the sky) - there's an adjacent cctv camera on Clifden Road so probably possible to identify the vandals that did it.

Middleton Road, on C27 , sees 75%+ movement by two wheelers with very low traffic levels, as you can see in the data. Is there any appetite for pushing the envelope among Cllrs and officers in @hackneycouncil.bsky.social , @sarahwoodberrydown.bsky.social ?

This is the profile of Middleton Road in Hackney - ideal candidate, IMHO

Whenever I hear Gvt ministers talk about "deregulation" I think of these guys (and Loach's "riff-raff"). Shall we go back to the 70s, when gangmasters could throw up shitty buildings however they liked, and workers routinely fell to their deaths? Or do we try to prevent that through H&S regulation?

We absolutely must avoid forever baking in the storage of massive cars on our streets. Ever wondered why pictures of old streets has them looking so wide? It's cos they're not lined bumper to bumper with 2-ton SUVs. spitalfieldslife.com/wp-content/u...

Absolutely staggering entitlement (or at best extremely disregard for others) of some drivers never ceases to shock. This guy has parked directly across the crossing, blocking the dropped kerb

You can barely see my six year old over the bonnet of this absolute monster. They have no place in our cities.

"I would go to the park with my kids so much more often if I didn't have to cross this [refacted] awful road like this" - direct quote. Having a motorway slip road outside your park is a terrible thing @hackneycouncil.bsky.social

Without this cycle track and bus stop bypass, these three female cyclists would have had to cycle in the bus lane and then around the parked bus, with another bus behind them. Even if they completed that safely, the experience would be stressful enough to make them never cycle that trip again.

Here's the reality of virtually all BSBS: no interactions with any bus users, VI or not, because chances of paths crossing are vanishingly small... and safe conditions for women and girls (and everyone else!) to access local amenities by bicycle with zero fear or risk of being crushed to death.

Here's the actual reality of a bus stop bypass, at any given time, on any given day. No interactions, no danger to pedestrians, VI or otherwise... but my wife, sister-in-law and daughter can independently and safely access local amenities without fear or risk of being crushed to death.

Top end of York Way cycle track is open with a lovely bit of machine-rolled asphalt and brand new parallel crossing. Thanks @camdencouncil.bsky.social (& @islington-council.bsky.social) #Londoncycling

Glorious cycle into London today, and amazing to see the Tollington place cycleway essentially at capacity on a cold day in March... @camdencyclists.bsky.social we're gonna need a longer green phase! Get lobbying 🙂

Street Fight seems an obvious choice for me; we're still seeing the same arguments/fears/concerns play out in London (everywhere?) over a decade later. Full of insight, best practice tips (ditch the "town hall meetings, guys), and a great story of what can be achieved.

They wouldn't be chucking pedestrians into a live carriageway. But here's the rub, they genuinely, bones-deep, just Do. Not. Believe. In. Cycle. Infrastructure. See here! Ppl can't be expected to cross 2m of bike lane! Never mind the 12m car lanes with 10k vehicles daily, what about the bikes!(5/n)
extract from Pembury decision report highlighting that pedestrians cannot be expected to cross cycle tracks

AGAIN, the alt design presented by @hackneylcc.bsky.social with its improvements to the overall junction design would have allowed this crossing to be kept. So even the argument about ped. experience cannot be taken seriously. If @hackneycouncil.bsky.social really cared about ped safety (4/n)

They have replaced the two stage "direct" crossing of Amhurst with an even less direct crossing (red arrows) in the knowledge that pedestrians WILL chance it and walk across the carriageway here (purple arrow). This is a junction that will still see 10,000 vehicles per day (3/n)
Pembury Circus detail shows red arrows require a two stage crossing to get across Amhurst Road West, and a Brown arrow indicating what pedestrians will do in practice which is cross the carriageway

Rob @rob042.bsky.social · 03/02/2025
@hackneycouncil.bsky.social claim to be improving the pedestrian experience at Pembury Circus. BUT, their design removes a crossing at Amhurst Road which was highlighted in the initial Road Safety Audit as introducing a new danger because it is *known* that peds will move on their desire line (1/n)

A fully realisable alternative vision was gifted to the council by @hackneylcc.bsky.social, and the council did everything they could to ignore it and look the other way, arguing they'd tried everything and couldn't do it. Wrong. They chose not to keep people on bikes safe. Coroners take note. (8/8)

Cycle instructors who work in Hackney have simply said that they wouldn't use this junction in any way; their advice would be to get off and walk. (5/x)

Pembury Circus in Hackney is now going to be built. Their project aims are pictured. On point #1; they are building a *new* scheme which scores an absolutely pitiful 35% on cycle safety according to the most objective assessment tool available (JAT). (1/x)

LAs making short cycle schemes will get very little uptake from the ppl already cycling in the road if they don't up their game and get out the mechanical roller. This is so uncomfy to ride on I'll go in the lovely smooth road next time! @leedscitycouncil.bsky.social @rantyhighwayman.bsky.social

John is far down the online radicalisation path, sadly. He's also denying decades of transport planning, we've always recognised that roads serve different purposes - this is from Buchanan's Traffic in Towns from 60 years ago! The facile "equity" argument for cars everywhere is a total red-herring
