The talent of the artists in the Tolkien fandom is like looking up at the stars in the night sky, first in the city, and then in the countryside--you see some at first, and then the more you look, the more there are twinkling and shining so brightly. And they're all so brilliant!

Happiest birthday to The Silmarillion today! Of all Tolkien's works, this one is dearest to my heart. Art credit of course goes to Ted Nasmith for this Eärendil the Mariner piece. #Tolkien #LOTR #middleearth #Luinellë
A digital graphic celebrating the 48th birthday of The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien. The background shows a ship with white sails and a blue and silver emblem, sailing on the ocean under a blue sky with clouds. Overlaid on the image is a translucent gray box containing black text. The text reads:

*"Happy 48th Birthday to The Silmarillion!
This book holds a very special place in my heart. It was the very first Tolkien work I read, the first season of The Prancing Pony Podcast I listened to, and I owe so very, very much to both J.R.R. Tolkien for writing it and Christopher Tolkien for bringing it into the world. The Silmarillion truly upended, changed, and even saved my life more than once.

To celebrate today, I’ve gathered some fun activities—feel free to pick one (or many!):

✨ Share your favorite Silmarillion memes!
✨ If you’re a PPP listener, tell me your favorite episodes, insights, or shenanigans from Season 1 OR what you’re most excited to hear when Alan revisits it in future seasons.
✨ Drop a question or thought you’ve always wanted to explore about one of the stories.
✨ Tell me your favorite Silmarillion lore video or resource!
✨ Show off your favorite editions (or a whole shelfie—I love discovering new ones!).
✨ Share a photo of a place that reminds you of somewhere in The Silmarillion.
✨ Post your favorite quote or passage from the book!

Looking forward to seeing everyone’s responses!"*

The Grey Haven Raven is here with a scroll for you: "Thank you for existing. Aurë entuluva." #Tolkien #LOTR #middleearth #Luinellë
A stylized digital illustration of a scroll tied with a ribbon in the foreground. Behind it, a black raven spreads its wings while flying above water with a snip with a white mast heading out to sea, flanked by tall canyon-like cliffs. A golden circle and two sparkles frame the scene against a partly cloudy sunset sky.

Back from a tough season, and slowly reclaiming my voice. If you’re still here, thank you. And if you’re a mod, a community builder, or just a quiet presence in fandom spaces, this one’s for you, and this is your reminder that your voice matters. 💚 #Tolkien #LOTR #Luinellë
A handwritten note on a torn notebook page, overlaid on a beach scene with waves and cliffs. The message reads, "Hey friends—Roäc the Grey Haven Raven here.
After an unexpected hiatus, I’m slowly finding my way back. The past stretch has been rough—mental health scares, monthly threats and harassment from a "member" of the Tolkien fandom, the unseen weight of moderating Tolkien spaces, and too many voices (internal and external) trying to convince me mine didn’t matter."A handwritten note on a torn notebook page, overlaid on a beach scene with waves and cliffs. The message reads, "But I’m still here. And I’m choosing to use my voice again—not for my sake, but to keep lifting up others: creators, scholars, events, and the many brilliant corners of the Tolkien community that deserve light. I recently told a friend it feels like mapping stars in the sky—endless, luminous, and worthy of wonder. "A handwritten note on a torn notebook page, overlaid on a beach scene with waves and cliffs. The message reads, "If you're still following me, thank you for bearing with me. And if you’re reading this, please take a moment to appreciate the moderators, community builders, and quiet caretakers of our fandom, but also to remember to treat others' voices with care, and not just because it's Mental Health Awareness month. But more to come, including on that! Your Grey Haven Raven"

Just found my new favorite Éowyn art, a piece by Michael Kaluta (1994). The style reminds me of the covers of the very first fantasy series I ever read. I love seeing a heroine I connect with so deeply now drawn similarly to the badass heroines who first sparked my love of fantasy. #LOTR #Tolkien
Illustration of a regal, blonde-haired woman standing confidently with a sword in hand at the entrance of a grand, elaborately decorated hall. The towering double doors behind her are intricately carved with horse motifs and golden designs. Birds, possibly swallows or sparrows, are flying all around her, filling the air with motion and life. The architecture is ornate, with detailed patterns, gilded elements, and wood benches on either side of the steps leading into the hall. The scene feels both majestic and enchanted, evoking themes of strength, guardianship, and grace.Three paperback fantasy books from The Dragon Chronicles series by Susan Fletcher are arranged on a wooden floor. The covers feature detailed, illustrated scenes with dragons and heroines. Dragon's Milk (top left) shows a girl in a red cloak holding a small dragon, with a larger dragon behind her. The tagline reads, "Can Kaeldra save the drakelings? "Flight of the Dragon Kyn (bottom left) shows a girl with a white peregrine falcon perched on her arm standing beside a dragon. The tagline reads, "Can Kara truly speak to dragons? "Sign of the Dove (right) shows a girl standing before a green dragon, holding up a dracling while a small red dragon flies nearby. The tagline reads, "Will Lyf use her special power?" All three books are published by Aladdin Fantasy.

The second is Nienna. Again @tolkiengateway.net has an excellent entry on the feminine identifying Vala: tolkiengateway.net/wiki/Nienna (Art by Aerankai)
A solemn, ethereal woman with long wavy silver hair, partially braided, stands on a moonlit balcony beneath a starry night sky. She wears an elegant dark gown adorned with delicate embroidery and a blue gemstone pendant. Her expression is one of deep sorrow and contemplation as she gazes into the distance. The soft light highlights her pale skin and creates a serene, melancholic atmosphere. Stone columns frame the background, and a calm sea is just barely visible beyond.

The first one is Ulmo! @tolkiengateway.net has an excellent entry on this masculine-identifying Vala: tolkiengateway.net/wiki/Ulmo "Ulmo cared about Arda and the Children of Eru, and through the veins of the world he kept in touch with them and saw every grief and need..." (Art by Alan Lee)
A dramatic fantasy scene shows a towering sea god emerging from a massive ocean wave during a storm. The deity, armored and bearded, rises from the water with lightning crackling across a dark, clouded sky. In the foreground, a lone warrior holding a spear stands on a jagged rock amidst crashing waves.

4. Your Favorite Age: Second Age I fell in love with the Second Age because of Unfinished Tales, Rings of Power, and of course, LOTRO.
A screenshot from The Lord of the Rings Online (LOTRO) depicting a majestic, elven-inspired ruin in the region of Eregion. The image shows an open courtyard surrounded by tall, arched stone walls and doorways adorned with intricate carvings and faded golden designs. The architecture is elegant and ancient, with sweeping gothic arches and detailed engravings hinting at lost craftsmanship and faded glory. At the center of the scene stands a prominent stone statue on a pedestal. The base of the statue is partially surrounded by red-flowered bushes and small trees, their foliage a rich mix of crimson and green. The environment is bathed in a soft, ethereal twilight glow. The sky above is dusky purple with wisps of clouds and faint stars beginning to appear, adding a dreamlike quality to the scene. Crumbled columns and fallen spires rise from behind the main walls, reinforcing the atmosphere of a once-great but now weathered and overgrown elven refuge nestled in nature's quiet reclamation.A richly detailed screenshot from The Lord of the Rings Online, depicting the interior of an elaborate Elven structure known as the Ring-forges of Tham Mírdain. The architecture features tall, curved walls adorned with gold filigree, pale stone columns, and sweeping arches. At the center is a grand domed ceiling supported by rib-like beams, with hanging purple lanterns casting a soft glow. A circular structure with ornate woodwork and glowing orange light serves as the focal point at the top of a staircase, framed by flowering plants and trees with deep red leaves. The entire space conveys an aura of ancient craftsmanship and mystical elegance.

3. Favorite Tolkien Adaptation: LOTRO I could go on and on about how beloved this adaptation is to me, why it's my favorite, etc... 🙈😊
A detailed in-game screenshot from the MMORPG The Lord of the Rings Online (LOTRO), showing a lady hobbit mounted on a decorated war-steed. The character has short auburn hair and wears ornate golden and green armor, including a high-collared chestplate, bracers, and shoulder guards. She carries a sword strapped to her back and holds the reins of a large brown horse. The horse is outfitted in an elaborate green and silver caparison adorned with circular red and ivory-colored gem-like designs on its headpiece, chestplate, and saddle. The background features a lush, green forested area with tall trees and white canvas tents set up on the grass. Behind the trees, a stone hillside or cliff can be seen rising up. One of the tents has a wooden arched door frame and resembles medieval or fantasy encampments. Light particles or snowflakes drift through the air, adding a sense of gentle atmosphere to the scene.

2. Favorite Tolkien Song or Poem: Bath Song
A close-up photo of a page from The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien. The text shows Pippin singing one of Bilbo's favorite bath-songs while taking a bath. The poem praises hot water, comparing it favorably to rain and cold water, and includes lines such as "O! Water Hot is a noble thing!" and "but better is Beer, if drink we lack, / and Water Hot poured down the back." A person’s finger is pointing at the bottom of the page, where the prose resumes describing a splash and Frodo's exclamation of "Whoa!"

So I’ve kept three things under wraps for a hot minute, and this one of them, albeit the most last minute of the three. Details in the thread: #LOTR #Tolkien #Luinellë
The image is a promotional graphic for A Light in the Darkness Reading Day Event, a day-long celebration of Tolkien’s works. The background features a deep blue, starry sky with a parchment-like texture. On the left side, there is elegant golden text that describes the event, mentioning that it will be a YouTube livestream featuring readings from Tolkien’s stories, discussions, and fundraising efforts for charities supporting fire relief in LA. The text invites both longtime fans and newcomers to Middle-earth to participate in this meaningful community gathering.

On the right side of the image is a detailed illustration by artist Matěj Čadil, depicting a Tolkien-inspired scene. The artwork is framed in a geometric pattern and showcases various elements from Middle-earth, including a swan-shaped ship sailing through the stars, a dragon in a volcanic landscape, elven ships sailing toward the light, Galadriel gazing into her mirror, and a determined hobbit holding a glowing sword. The bottom right of the artwork includes a small credit: "Art by Matěj Čadil." The overall design blends fantasy and celestial elements, evoking the themes of light, hope, and perseverance central to Tolkien’s works.

🧵/5 17:17 - Alan reading this passage of Théoden & Gandalf hits so much harder now that Bernard Hill has passed. He is still Théoden in my heart. 18:38 - This passage is EVERYTHING.
A quote from The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien is displayed in a medieval-style, ornate brown font against a semi-transparent parchment-colored background. The text reads:

'Behold! you are come into a peril greater even than the wit of Wormtongue could weave into your dreams. But see! you dream no longer. You live. Gondor and Rohan do not stand alone. The enemy is strong beyond our reckoning, yet we have a hope at which he has not guessed.'

The background is an illustration of a grand, warmly lit hall with high ceilings and large stone columns, resembling the halls of Rohan. A figure stands near a golden throne, illuminated by a beam of light. At the bottom, there is a credit line: 'Art Credit to Jeremy Paillotin for LOTR MTG.'A quote from The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien is displayed in an ornate brown font against a semi-transparent parchment-colored background. The text reads:

'Slowly Théoden sat down again, as if weariness still struggled to master him against the will of Gandalf. He turned and looked at his great house. "Alas!" he said, "that these evil days should be mine, and should come in my old age instead of that peace which I have earned. Alas for Boromir the brave! The young perish and the old linger, withering." He clutched his knees with his wrinkled hands.'
