There seems to be a bit of noise about Werro's fall today in the 800m semi because the initial impression is that she tripped, but the video clearly shows Bourgoin's left hand swings down and knocks her right foot into the back of her left leg.

The bird bath is cracked and won't hold water, so I've put a bowl on the patio nearby. This pigeon has been looking at me expectantly for several minutes now. I don't think he's going to figure it out for a while... #birds

Does everyone else in the UK have these little record cards? The old one shows I had the measles vaccine in 1971 so presumably enough for life, but it turns out I'm overdue for a couple of boosters - Hepatitis A and Diptheria/Tetanus/Polio, which I guess I should sort out at some point.

I always feel a greater keenness for #poetry at this time of year, and particularly at the moment for that of John F. Deane. Delicate rhythms, stark beauty and occasionally a sense of some fleeting & almost impossible grandeur just out of the corner of your eye.

I took a screenshot of this because I knew in advance it would lead to a block. The press in this country will happily chat & joke with far-right Tories & Reform all day long as long as they make it 'polite' but will take huge offence when the left point out the damage it does.
UK journalist 'Jim Pickard' asking for more right-leaning folk on Bluesky to "liven the place up". My reply: "No surprise to hear the UK press saying this - the same people who've been forcing Farage & co down our throats & normalising the far-right for years in the name of viewers & clicks."

Caught the robin having a bath today. Spideog: small chubby masterpiece, to quote John F. Deane. He's a bit of a tyrant this one, always trying to scare the other birds off the feeder, although they do seem to get their turn eventually. #birds

Today is Patrick Kavanagh's birthday. Fun fact - the song 'Raglan Road' made famous by the Dubliners (and others) is a Kavanagh poem put to the tune of Fáinne Gael an Lae.
Cover of Patrick Kavanagh's Collected Poems.On Raglan Road from the collected poems.

On Raglan Road on an autumn day I met her first and knew
That her dark hair would weave a snare that I might one day rue;
I saw the danger, yet I walked along the enchanted way,
And I said, let grief be a fallen leaf at the dawning of the day.

On Grafton Street in November we tripped lightly along the ledge
Of the deep ravine where can be seen the worth of passion's pledge,
Synthetic sighs and fish-dim eyes, and all death’s loud display-
O I loved too much and by such and such is happiness thrown away.

Self-inflicted high jinx today - locked myself out with the keys *in* the lock. Drove to my Mum's & filled up a shoe box with a load of my Dad's old tools & bits & bobs. Coat hanger thru the letterbox not stiff enough, but eventually got the keys out with this custom tool. Maybe I should patent it!
