3/ The three MD subdivisions have divergent electrophysiological profiles. Surprisingly, central MD is distinct from lateral and medial MD—and more similar to other thalamic regions. These findings have important implications for understanding the MD in health and disease.

2/ Using the largest single-neuron in vivo electrophysiological dataset from the MD of behaving animals to date, the authors show that MD subdivisions differ in waveform features, spiking activity, and rapid burst firing.

1/ NEW PREPRINT: The mediodorsal thalamus (MD) is critical for cognition and implicated in several brain disorders. Panti et al. reveal that the MD is much more diverse than previously thought. doi.org/10.64898/202...
graphical abstract: top left- a 3D wireframe of a mouse brain from 3 angles, showing the locations of all the silicon probe tracks; top right- using electrophysiological characteristics, the central CM is distinct, shown as a tree diagram, and shown colour-coded on an anatomical diagram; bottom left- waveform, spiking and bursting metrics represented by lines for spikes, and a curve for the waveform; bottom right- anatomical boundaries of thalamic regions, from 2 different coronal planes, colour-coded for similarity in electrophysiological characteristics.
