Among the material devastation to everyday people, Senate Dems have now blown a hole in their ability to work with the House. We had an agreed upon plan, House took immense risk, then Senate turned around midway and destroyed it w/ a fear-based, inexplicable abdication. They own what happens next.

I’m three weeks behind on podcasts, but immediately skipped ahead to listen to Flightless Bird when I saw the topic today. Will be giving webworm a listen to. Focus on the Family was a part of my household as a kid and will never be a part of mine as an adult.

Late tonight, I will deliver a response to President Trump's Congressional Address. NO to Oligarchy. NO to Authoritarianism. YES to Democracy and an economy that works for all. I hope you'll join us.

Between sessions doomscrolling I managed to read quite a bit while laid up with a broken foot still. Fingers crossed I get good news this week from the doctor! #booksky

Correction: it’s the Button-Up Pattern

This is what the government did with 120K+ Japanese Americans in 1942. I know. I was there in those camps.

If you look closely, you can see about where I broke my foot and started having more time for reading #booksky

It's good that there's a 25% tarriff on imported coffee now. This will incentivize people to purchase American coffee, grown in the New Jersey coffee forests

I am a library girl through and through, but I loved this book so much that I’m purchasing the next two immediately. Currently the seventh hold on one copy for the second book and that won’t do! I don’t often purchase new books, but this series is worth it #booksky

I think you maybe meant they took place in what is now Danvers? I lived in Salem for a few years and Danvers is the neighboring town. I would move back in a heartbeat, but it’s become so expensive.

Thank you for your encouragement! I might try in a couple days. The Juki I use for work is an industrial and has a larger pedal so it might be a little easier on that one than my commercial machine at home.

Welp, just to round out a truly terrible week, I broke my foot and am in a boot for the foreseeable future. Which means no sewing for work or fun. And way too much time to doomscroll. Cool cool.

Received my first Penzey’s spice order today. If anyone else loves cooking and baking and also wants to support companies with morals, I highly recommend!

Great. Just got a message from the school nurse. My 5 year old was in the office because she had to change her pants after another student vomited next to her and she was hit with it. So we’re basically doomed. Yay sick season!

Poetry Foundation not fucking around with today's poem of the day www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/89897/...

A screenshot of Maggie Smith's "Good Bones"
Life is short, though I keep this from my children.
Life is short, and I’ve shortened mine
in a thousand delicious, ill-advised ways,
a thousand deliciously ill-advised ways
I’ll keep from my children. The world is at least
fifty percent terrible, and that’s a conservative
estimate, though I keep this from my children.
For every bird there is a stone thrown at a bird.
For every loved child, a child broken, bagged,
sunk in a lake. Life is short and the world
is at least half terrible, and for every kind
stranger, there is one who would break you,
though I keep this from my children. I am trying
to sell them the world. Any decent realtor,
walking you through a real shithole, chirps on
about good bones: This place could be beautiful,
right? You could make this place beautiful.

Yes 😅 but I do still dabble in YA because they’re generally lighter and faster reads!

Have I finished the quilt from the last MQAL? No. Am I about to jump into a new one and pick out pretty new fabrics? Yes. Highly recommend this Sew-Along and this community!

I alsofinished this yesterday. It’s a five star read for me. It’s pretty heavy and maybe feels a little too close to certain realities now, but it kept me hooked. #booksky

I never moved or changed schools when I was a kid, but I like to imagine starting over on a new social media app to be sort of the same thing.

It may have taken 8 plays, but I finally cracked the strategy for Azul and won. And got a high score for us to boot. I’ll be riding this high until I lose again next time. #boardgames #imawinner
