“Go ahead, it’s a free country” my son said. He was baiting me. He knew the tirade I would unleash, and I did. Folks, we do not live in a free country. I know I am preaching to the choir here. But we need to come out and say it as it is. To everyone. (My son agrees, it was a mood)

So, in Harrisburg, OR, the annual “old fashioned 4th of July” fireworks started like this: the first few lighted the field across the river from the town. Engines from the towns on both sides put it out, and the fireworks resumed. (Historically that field is hay, likely not yet cut)

On my soapbox again. Whatever person nurtured you, who shaped who you are, the one you turn/ed to when you need/ed a friend, that is “mom”. That is the human who mothered you. Don’t let another person dismiss you by saying that person is not your “real” mom. Dismiss them!

1/? An acquaintance posted something today that has spurred this rant. RE: going places with disabled persons. If you consider someone a friend, but won’t go anywhere with them because of their disability, then you are NOT a friend. Be you, that’s fine, but don’t pretend you are a friend.

A sweet moment today. I use a rollator, and I am old. Walked to the pharmacy, then to bus stop - which is next to a middle school. I stopped to adjust some things, and this delightful boy, about 11, came from behind me and asked me if I needed any help. How thoughtful and caring. (See comments).

I post a lot of photos of bird life on the pond outside my window, and I’ve mentioned it’s an urban wetland. Here is the view I don’t show, 🤣. Several large apartment complexes, a strip mall, and a very busy main road surround the pond. Still, it’s a cool spot. #pondlife #wetland
