Julio Torri was a truly remarkable Mexican writer in the first half of the 20th century. He's known for blurring the lines between genres. Yet, his work is not well known outside the Spanish-speaking world. I've been translating a few chapters from "Ensayos y poemas" (1917). A draft of "A Circe":
