Could you make it a seax? They are visually distinctly "viking" and have no modern military affiliation (that I'm aware of). They could be visually simple or incredibly ornate and ranged in size from a small pairing knife to full on sword. These are all modern interpretations of museum pieces.

May I offer you our resident back yard noodle and this neat beetle in these trying times?

A garter snake suns itself amongst the green leaves of some sort of sprawling ground vine plant.

A very round, dark reddish brown beatle walks confidently across some light tan covered gravel that hasn't been graded very well. Beatle seems unbothered by the poor landscaping work.

I used to do illumination and calligraphy for a reenactment group. I'm well versed in the art (pun fully intended) of the long storied history of mortal snail combat.
