Of course some people believe that posting the 10 Commandments will help instill more respectful, obedient behavior in children. They’re deeply wrong but they believe it. It’s a comfortable, reassuring world view that cannot be disproven because faith is faith.

Well done, Cory. Really well done. 👏👏👏.

Indeed. That’s why my brand new washer and dryer has buttons and dials. No screens.

Interesting. 5-for-5, you’re grading the Admin. as “good idea, badly implemented.” Of course, the implementation IS the policy (the idea is just a talking point), so that all adds up to an F. But politely presented . . .

Agreed (I checked out a few months ago). And for me, Thiessen became uninteresting several years ago.

Here’s a simple test for the Washington Post. Given its new bedrock commitment to “personal liberties and free markets,” will it come out strongly against Trump teaming up with Russia against Ukraine? Russian society and economics are the opposite of the Post’s values. Let’s see if they say so.

Darn. I’ve already cancelled WSJ and Washington Post. So I’ll keep these guys but really . . .
000
Robert Jones @rljones24.bsky.social · 19/02/2025
Correct. I already find myself tuning in to BBC more often. And I almost subscribed to a Canadian newspaper but I haven’t done that yet.

Fully agreed. Europe, Australia, etc. have the capability to enable Ukraine to win. And in the process, make it clear that the U.S., under Trump, had become irrelevant to the outcome. That would be sad all around but America Alone is America Alone.

Embarrassing indeed. Smart guy, rich guy, posting simpleton content. I don’t get it.

Robert Jones @rljones24.bsky.social · 16/02/2025
So far, they would probably say “yes,” because nothing bad has happened to them yet. They’ve avoided punishment by Trump and they may have lost some self respect but that doesn’t seem to be troubling them. They will care at some point but only when things get much much worse.

Robert Jones @rljones24.bsky.social · 07/02/2025
Correct. I’ve got no problem with unwinding some of the procedures and bureaucracy that have developed. But the Trump team and his oligarchs seem clueless about society and what we went through to get here. There’s hell to pay if they keep going down this road.

Once again, social media Democrats organize a circular firing squad. I don’t know what happened with the vote, but I think every single response to this post is dunking on Ro about the vote. You think RO is the problem? Give me a break. Aim the right direction.

And Elon gave you the old “Don’t be a dick” clapback over on X? That’s pretty hilarious. I’m surprised he fit it into his busy schedule.

Robert Jones @rljones24.bsky.social · 05/02/2025
Cory, thank you for “liking” this post. I have a lot of sympathy for Democratic politicians trying to respond to the onslaught. We’re counting on you. Greetings also from Roble Hall, 1970’s. 😀.

Robert Jones @rljones24.bsky.social · 04/02/2025
I keep looking at X because there are a lot of interesting posts. The problem is the comments are full of right wing vitriol. So actually, it remains a pretty good platform for information if you follow the right people but it’s just a sad place for commentary.

I’m not a fan of originalism, but an intellectually honest version would have some integrity. The problem is it is now used by a Court that simply argues to a desired outcome. I can predict Supreme Court decisions without reading the Constitution, so . . . that’s not originalism.

Is there any less useful of a headline or phrase than “experts say”? Republicans see that and disregard everything that follows. Can’t there be stronger language? I saw the headline about the California water discharge. “Experts say it wastes water.” No, it actually does waste water. Say it.

Hey, credit where credit is due. Her office has learned something. They have written a statement of concern without using the word “concern.” 🙄.

“PAT25 has traffic in sight.” Oh my gosh. Student error apparently. I once took flight lessons; things happen fast.

Robert Jones @rljones24.bsky.social · 30/01/2025
Correct. Did the helicopter pilot not see the plane? That seems the only explanation. Fatal civil aviation accidents are so rare that each of them becomes hard to explain but this one is just weird.

Robert Jones @rljones24.bsky.social · 29/01/2025
Understood. I didn’t say they were persecuted; there was lots of public health logic to the policy. My point was that restrictions on public gatherings and cancelling in-person school did involve a definite downside (harm). But wearing a mask? That’s trivial. People wouldn’t even do THAT??
110
Robert Jones @rljones24.bsky.social · 29/01/2025
I was astonished by the anti-mask movement. I can understand why people objected to schools and bars being closed because there was a real downside. But fighting hard to not wear a mask? Refusing to accept responsibility for keeping other people safe? It was so disappointing.

This is not an issue of me being limited in what I can say. This is an issue of alienating millions of middle Americans who feel like they are being policed and condescended to. I’d rather win elections than refine the language.
010
Robert Jones @rljones24.bsky.social · 29/01/2025
Wow. By not pushing back at all they consent to being irrelevant. There are so many ways they could report the story accurately but still sling some crap back. But no . . . it’s more important to be politely subservient. Mission accomplished, I guess.

There is ZERO chance of me using an X-affiliated payment system. And if my Visa card touched the X ecosphere, that’s the end of my Visa card. No doubt about it.

Did any of you see the interview with Vivek right after the election when he asked Democrats to give Trump a chance to unify the country? I think he even meant it. It was a laughable request — Trump had no intention of trying. It’s always interesting to see an intelligent person be delusional.
020
Robert Jones @rljones24.bsky.social · 28/01/2025
No, they understand completely. The plan is to cancel all the grants then reinstate the ones they like (Red states and conservative causes) and freeze out Blue states, Blue cities and all universities. Make them litigate up to the Supreme Court or kiss the ring if they prefer.
0102
Robert Jones @rljones24.bsky.social · 28/01/2025
I agree. I’m sorry to say this but they are proving themselves not up to the task. Polls show lots and lots of opposition to what the Republicans are doing but the Democratic politicians are (so far) completely ineffective at mobilizing that opposition.
000
Robert Jones @rljones24.bsky.social · 27/01/2025
Thank you for posting this. I had seen the post before but skipped over it. She’s very powerful and clear and I hope a lot of Democratic politicians see it.

Elon’s fellow investors in X were fine with what he did because most of them were investing in their relationship with Elon more so than investing in Twitter per se. But the pension funds, etc. who own Meta stock would not be OK seeing the financials deteriorate.
000
Robert Jones @rljones24.bsky.social · 26/01/2025
It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Elon basically turned X into a political action not-for-profit by trashing the site and destroying the revenue model. Zuck’s not prepared to do that for Facebook, etc., so how’s he going to pull off “Fascism Lite?”

Good point and only fair. Lots of male politicians lie and so did she. She knew what she was doing, she knew what was true and she knew what she said. They were lies.

Robert Jones @rljones24.bsky.social · 26/01/2025
Yes we will. We will be America Alone and it will be lonely and frustrating. Other countries will no longer lean forward for us; they will still do some things we ask (not always) but there will be a price for everything. American politicians and executives have no idea how unhappy that will be.
000
Robert Jones @rljones24.bsky.social · 26/01/2025
Probably true but he was going to be confirmed either way. The Republicans are hoping that there will be enough competent people in the Department that the military will still function. It’s an abdication of responsibility but that’s the business they’re in right now.

Robert Jones @rljones24.bsky.social · 26/01/2025
All true, including the fact that good reporters with compromised publications have lost credibility. I feel sorry for them and the situation they find themselves in. But that doesn’t help me get over my skepticism. I see an NYT article and I wonder whether there is any point to reading it.
020
Robert Jones @rljones24.bsky.social · 25/01/2025
Yep. I still go there to read posts because there are some interesting people who post there but not here. But the amount of unwelcome, crappy material (what Elon might call “regretted engagement”) goes up every single time. It’s just worse and worse.

Robert Jones @rljones24.bsky.social · 25/01/2025
Yeah. The baseball cap, huge sunglasses, overcoat — fake Melania is along for the ride. No way is the real Melania making a trip to burned-out Pacific Palisades and hanging out with Donald for such a large amount of time.

And for me that’s the big issue. Of course it’s fine to have voluntary religious schools as long as they meet normal educational standards. But having the government pay for them is profoundly unfair and divisive because it disrespects other religions and non-believers and takes money from them.

Robert Jones @rljones24.bsky.social · 25/01/2025
I still check out X on occasion. Less so than BlueSky but reasonably often because there are some interesting people who do not post here. But the ratio of dreck-to-quality keeps going up and it’s only a matter of time before I pull the plug there. Ugh.

He’s trying to edge back towards the middle. But still it comes off as if he was fine with the Nazi salute but objects to offensive humor. I have not studied ADL to figure out what they actually stand for but they seem to be conflicted or confused.

Punch it up, Cory. “Cast a cloud” is weak. The country can’t afford weak. You can be intelligent and fair but still forceful. AOC has this figured out and we’d like to see the same from you. I’m a big fan. Get in there.

I couldn’t find that but go take a look at the recent posts by Marisa Kabas about Megan’s column. They’re terrific! Based on an AI summary of the reader comments.

I am impressed. That AI summary is better than 90% of the “reporting” today from NYT and WaPo. Simple, factual, not garbled into incoherence. Shouldn’t be so difficult, right?

Ah, no. Did I just embarrass myself? 🤣🤦‍♂️. Is there a reference? I always thought she was kind of 50/50 as to whether she got things right but was pretty logical. My apologies if I was wrong.
