One of my students died suddenly on Tuesday night. Since then has probably been the longest three days of my life. My school community has been beautiful about pulling together and supporting each other, but it’s one of the hardest things I’ve ever gone through.

I do want the vast majority of undocumented people to be able to stay here permanently, if they want! The vast majority of them are a benefit to our country and economy!

I think that’s a fair critique. Most of the lessons are also in the a/g/a2 books but just reorganized. It definitely makes a difference to use the whole curriculum across grades, but not to that problem.

We use CPM at my school and we really like it! I use the effl model and feel like it’s friendly if not specifically embedded. Definitely problem based.

For real! I think that’s what I’m picking up on. This gap between how teaching is viewed across the country. It all needs to be better across the board, and I applaud and support anywhere that does it better, but it’s like a *vast gulf* and it varies so much state to state.

Yeah that’s fine. Again, I’m just often caught off guard by how aghast NYC and other strong union teachers are by things that, in my experience, are common. *You’re* not the one doing it wrong, for the record. Here we have teachers required to read off scripts the exact same on the same day.

I’m sure it is different, but not every math teacher is just scanning a scantron and calling it a day, either. Our field is also changing and the way it interacts with the world is constantly changing a LOT. at our best we’re all trying to parse out kids reasoning and that takes time.

If you are doing any kind of presentation and there is a microphone, please use it. It’s an important accessibility issue that trumps your comfort speaking into it. Even if people can hear you, you’re making it way harder and more tiring to listen to you.
