#OctoberWorldbuilders 5. Desert myths The deep crevice left behind when Azrak jumped to his death is known these days as the Gates of Hel. Many dark folk tales have risen from this malevolent place, predominantly the eerie rumour that Azrak is still alive down there, prowling the deep as a zombie.

#FantasyIndiesSpooktober 5. Halloween party Jynrahd wouldn't really get the idea. "They want me to look scary? But, like...I already do. ...what d'you mean 'fun-scary'?" He'd probably wind up as the other half of a duo costume with Trikk, some kind of 'Frankenstein and his monster' arrangement.

#OctoberWorldbuilders 4. Flora/fauna Sand Reapers are native to Azrakia. Giant scorpions with tall, almost horselike upper bodies like demented centaurs, they make ideal mounts for soldiers, given their natural armour.

#OctoberWorldbuilders 3. Architecture The buildings in Wyrmoila were built centuries prior from the natural red sandstone of the desert. They are added to with banners and stone carvings, but a lot of personality has been lost to wartime efficiency, so decoration is minimal.

#OctoberWorldbuilders 2. Desert culture Azrakia has no culture. Not anymore. Their traditions, their songs, the entire lives of the dragonborn clan living there has been consumed by war. They live to fight, tragically blind to the fact they have so little to fight for anymore.

#OctoberWorldbuilders 1. Deserts The MC of my first book, Cloudrend, hails from the desert island of Azrakia. Once a lush, thriving land, it began to decay when it's God-Dragon Azrak threw himself between the two warring peoples. Now lost in endless war, it's not a place to travel unprepared.

#FantasyIndiesSpooktober 1. Hi! I'm Phoenix, and I'm a dragon sitting on a hoard of stories to tell. I write cosy, wholesome fantasy tales full of found families, reluctant heroes and magic and my one goal is to raise a smile. Come join me on the pile and rest beneath my wing.

Today I am officially 30! And no, I still don't feel like an adult. People say your 20s are for discovering who you are, and I'm inclined to agree. I came to terms with my sexuality, learned to understand my mental disorders and, most importantly, discovered my creativity. Roll on 30s!

#AugustWorldbuilders 17. Magic users The blanket term is mage, but there are types depending on how they acquire their power. Wizards study for it. Priests and Warlocks are granted it by a celestial or demonic patron respectively. Druids commune with their ancestors. Sorcerers are the odd ones out.

#QueerPrompts 16. Jokes Trikk's favourite joke always kills it at parties. "Why must an archmage always tie his shoes? Because otherwise, he CAN TRIP!!" Usually delivered in floods of noisy giggles while floating around. #Cloudrend #booksky #writing #writesky #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts

#AugustWorldbuilders 16. Categories Magic is divided into focuses on a purely academic level. Enchantment, Necromancy, Battlemagic, etc. Some mages choose to specialise in one or two focuses, but all magic is accessible to all mages. Tsentrin's laws do not prohibit any magic, viewing it as a tool.

RK Phoenix - Writer, DM, Dragon @rk-phoenix-author.bsky.social · 16/08/2026

##FantasyIndiesAugust 16. Mental health The MC's mental health is a big factor in #Cloudrend. Jynrahd is a war veteran with implied PTSD and a sense of inferiority and survivor's guilt. His connection with the family he finds in his guild mates helps him to cope, even when he suffers panic attacks.

#QueerPrompts 14. Music #Cloudrend would be soft rock combined with classic orchestral, covering feelings of safe whimsy and death-defying terror between measures. #ShootTheMessenger is a soft, rustic, Celtic folk sound, evoking the forest and its inhabitants, as well as the rivalry they share.

RK Phoenix - Writer, DM, Dragon @rk-phoenix-author.bsky.social · 15/08/2026

#AugustWorldbuilders 15. Magic Magic in Norne is defined as: "the conscious manipulation of one's Zephyr". Zephyr is a type of magical wind that mages use their breath to weave into spells. It is performed with the voice and a casting implement containing a Zephyrstone, usually a rod. #Cloudrend

#AugustWorldbuilders 14. Animal deities The Gersi’i are beholden to powerful Fey, but worship Finnabair. This nature-adjacent aspect of Loftin the Wind Mother takes the form of a golden stag and the Gersi’i beseech him for the fair winds that pollinate crops and carry their words to Him.

#QueerPrompts 13. Likable vs annoying Ratatoskr is both. "What can I say? I live to deliver your notes and make fun of goats!" (Somewhere in the distance, Heiðrun starts crying again)

RK Phoenix - Writer, DM, Dragon @rk-phoenix-author.bsky.social · 13/08/2026

#QueerPrompts 12. Youth Day Ratatoskr was never a child. Jynrahd however was a troubled child soldier born into nobility. Shouldering expectations from the moment he could hold a blade, he got by by confiding in his brother. He was stern, disciplined and wouldn't be caught dead playing hopscotch.

RK Phoenix - Writer, DM, Dragon @rk-phoenix-author.bsky.social · 13/08/2026

#QueerPrompts 11. Describe family Jynrahd: "Family are the ones who are there when everyone else is gone. The ones who care, blood be damned. You find a family in those who love you, and you go to the ends of Norne for them." Ratatoskr: "I 'unno. Boy squirrel. 'Nother boy squirrel. Couple babies?"

#AugustWorldbuilders 13. Ancient wars Azrakia's War of the Mesa has so far lasted 306 years. It's at a permanent stalemate that neither side accepts. It's raged so long that all of Azrakia's culture has been subsumed by it. The people live to fight, not fight to live. Jynrahd had never looked back.

#AugustWorldbuilders 12. Artefacts The Four Bequeaths are ancient and holy creations of the Mother Gods, worn only by the Inheritors. With the MCs becoming the new, modern day Inheritors, they don Loftin's Cloak, Vatnir's Gauntlets, Elduri's Crown and Jurdr's Plate during their missions.

#AugustWorldbuilders 11. Disasters In order to end the fighting between the two races of Azrakia, the great God-Dragon Azrak flung himself from his mountain throne and destroyed the city of Kuramoila, cleaving a great black crevice across the island in the process, known today as the Gates of Hel.

#FantasyIndiesAugust 13. Special items Ratatoskr's personal weapon, his answer to Mjolnir, is Rati. Far from a blade, it's an infallible climbing axe that comes to his paw when called and never fails to stick into any surface and stay there. It makes Ratatoskr even better at his greatest talent.

#FantasyIndiesAugust 12. Top reads of 2026 My favourites so far have been LJ Ross' Sycamore Gap and Travis Baldree's Brigands and Breadknives. Audiobook-wise, I've enjoyed Dennis E. Taylor's We Are Legion, We Are Bob so far. I'm realising I don't have a fixed genre this year, and I like that.

RK Phoenix - Writer, DM, Dragon @rk-phoenix-author.bsky.social · 13/08/2026

#FantasyIndiesAugust 11. Birthday Jynrahd never celebrated his birthday before he left home. He found it odd when his bunk mates showed up at his door with a cake for him. Nowadays, he prefers not to fuss about it too much. Just a dinner with his found family at The Dragon Egg is enough for him.

020

RK Phoenix - Writer, DM, Dragon @rk-phoenix-author.bsky.social · 10/08/2026

#QueerPrompts 10. Breaks I have always considered writing a hobby to be practised when I feel like it. Trying to force myself to write doesn't work. When I'm not writing, I'm still brainstorming ideas for plots, characters and worlds. That's not laziness, it's an essential part of the process.

#AugustWorldbuilders 10. Ancient Heroes The original Inheritors! The four chosen scions of the Mother Gods from the ancient time when they still walked the world in physical bodies. Magella Sintadil, Prince Gjoll II, Empress Nameke and Nori Dorotheim. Four names every Tsentrian knows.
