@dilmandila also, don't forget the manual! If ever someone gives you a cli command, type "man <command>' to read those man pages. man find #linux #terminal

@montef Just on the logging part, I assume that you know you can install rsyslog (or the like)? I have gotten used to systemd over the years (and appreciate many things about it now), but I rarely, if ever, touch journalctl.

@bryceac I write mine in markdown, and convert with pandoc. Also nicer when committing to git.

Despite the fact that I love em dashes—I have loved them since the 1990’s during which time I also developed an unnatural love for typefaces—I must now avoid them in order to maintain the appearance that I am not outsourcing my thinking to AI. @daringfireball

The price of diesel in the U.S. has risen 80% (or, 800%, depending on "how you calculate it")

Thinking of you all up there in the #USA today, for #NoKings day! (Sadly we still have a king here in Australia, but he's generally pretty low maintenance compared to yours) Yours in solidarity, from #DownUnder. #NoDictators

RE: mastodon.social/@kagihq/11609460430… OMG. I wasn’t surprised to see Dothraki and Klingon in their language list. I a little more surprised to see Elvish (Sindarin), good for them. But the existence of translations to Gen Z are making me laugh so hard my sides hurt.

Screenshot of a Kagi Translate page, which shows English “i would like to go to the hotel” to Gen Z “i lowkey need to hit the hotel rn”.

@jsit I second that, although would love to see it as an OS wide framework for all apps to use…

Wondering if the world needs a new expanded turn of phrase for a once trusted nation which betrays that trust? Maybe "Proditor Pariah State"? #uspol legalclarity.org/what-is-a-pariah-s…

For fear that we forget the sacrifice and lessons of the past. Seems more pertinent now in 2026, than something we recite just one day a year… #auspol anzacportal.dva.gov.au/commemoratio…

@tchambers #ivory does it for Mastodon, via the iOS idiom of a long tap copy/speak menu (on the full handle which shows in profile). Ivory is so good I sometimes forget that others have a lot more friction.

I was recently given some of my late father's books, throughout which he’d made countless notes and annotations in the margins. Underlined (NB!), in a Karl Popper autobiography; "But what impressed me most was Einstein's own clear statement that he would regard his theory as untenable if it […]
