Daughter in an interview for a scholarship, age ~9. Was asked what she was reading, said The Moomins. Teacher said sniffily she should be beyond those by then & my daughter answered ‘my mum says there’s more to them than meets the eye. They are rich & beautifully written’. Didn’t get the scholarship
