Nice. Wish more services did age verification this way (looking at you, Steam).

I don't believe any Australian copies are signed. I did attempt to reach out to Penguin Random House Australia about the signed plates John did, but they never got back to me 😞

Alas, it is unsigned. Oh well, it's not like I don't have several other things with the 'J scribble'!

Yet another update: a new addition!

Same photo of floating shelves as previous posts, however with the addition of 'Fanclub' 2026 re-pressing with alternate artwork.

Simon V @rith.au · 14/09/2026

Physical media!! By humans!! Can't wait to get my hands on this. Also I think this is the closest time between Kickstarter backing/funding to final delivery of product I've ever been a part of lol

We Asked 100* Gamers - PAX EDITION

Hey Pocketeers! Spoiler alert: We're bringing our favourite segment, We Asked 100* Gamers, to PAX Aus this year! But... we can't do it without YOUR help. Answer the questions below to the best of…

Do you mean Something worth knowing? Already accounted for 😊

Simon V @rith.au · 09/09/2026

it turns out that once you remove the payment method, it re-locks everything according to some reddit comments. so that goes that idea anyway! what a shitshow this is. even steam accounts that are older than 18 years themselves are affected by this

000

Simon V @rith.au · 09/09/2026

UK link, but same principle. It's mostly because they can't prove you aren't under 18 with a debit card (as most banks give you one with a normal bank account) Having said that, if neither of you are able to sort this out by PAX, I'd be happy to help by lending you a card to verify with?

Received some bad news today so would appreciate some positive vibes my way, whilst we figure out what to do about it..

Just completed Big Walk! Including all of the post game. What a freakin' delightful game. I'm so so proud of House House, and the fact that this game is AUSTRALIAN! A great showcase of the Aussie indie scene, and of our beautiful landscape! Big Walk's island is based off a real place in Victoria.

Oh, never shared this update! The two players in question saw my Instagram post and thanked me for the support 😊 I'm glad it was appreciated by them. Love seeing Aussies do well overseas! Especially if they're from Perth, and players I've seen play, in person.

Simon V @rith.au · 04/09/2026

Love that the top comment is pointing out how much screen time Stunfisk got (a whole 11 seconds)

Screenshot of video linked in previous post. It is a collage of the Pokemon Stunfisk, with its Japanese name マッギョ alongside it.

Simon V @rith.au · 04/09/2026

This is just delightful. Worth a watch for the cute artwork and animations alone! Song's kinda catchy too. (It's basically a Japanese Pokérap featuring all 1025 Pokémon)

Impulse bought a Gintama blind box last weekend. Got the supposed "secret" option. Figured the best place to put it in the house was here..

Photo of a floating shelf. On the shelf there is a figurine of a golden "Elizabeth" from the anime Gintama. Elizabeth is holding a sign that says "chotto matte" in Japanese. Behind Elizabeth, is a line of four tiny yellow ducks. In the background, there are also a couple Omamori hanging.

Still never seen a total solar eclipse (hopefully weather will be good for Sydney 2028!) but taking this excuse to post the lunar eclipse photos I took 8 years ago.. It's not the best but hey, I'm no professional photographer, and I'm still happy with it.

But yeah, we've both known him for so long and we know the good he's done and not to be all parasocial, but people outside of the community don't really have the full context of his career I guess? Not to defend his LLM use (I wish he'd stop), but like, he deserves grace.

000

Unfortunately there's a subset of people who just seem to be making it their whole personality to shit on him though. That's probably the most annoying thing out of all this.

100

I think *most* people understand and forgive him, and are willing to see the nuance in it. But you're always going to get people who are fully against AI, no matter what (which I understand). So there is still some reservations about that because his "policy" doesn't really address that..

100

and like... there are much worse things he could have done!!!

Simon V @rith.au · 05/08/2026

It's taken up a lot of my time/effort over the past week or so because I moderate r/nerdfighters 😔 I've said this before, but whatever happened to imagining people complexly? On one hand, it's "good" that it's happened so he can learn from it. But on the other, he doesn't deserve all the hate..

Played a few hours of this game (Big Walk) this evening, mostly with people I've never gamed with before. Super fun times. Looking forward to the next session!

Sigh. It'd be great if people leaving comments in various Reddit threads (yes, those ones) would just read the room and vibe of the posts and not make my job harder ffs. Whatever happened to imagining people complexly?

Update: I put up more shelves!

Photo of a wall with a floating shelf beneath the air-con unit. The records on the shelf are: Matilda the Musical soundtrack, Daft Punk's Random Access Memories, and Tim MInchin's Apart Together. There is also a framed Princess Mononoke painting, and Totoro artwork

The same shelf as the photo in the previous post, but with another smaller shelf underneath. The records are the same, but re-arranged. There is also a wooden plate that says "Don't Forget to be Awesome".

The bar on its own does sound great, so you made a good choice either way. And thankfully yeah, it's very easy to just add more down the line. It's a lot of money to drop on audio at once!

Simon V @rith.au · 27/07/2026

With surrounds as well? I also have a Sonos system, and I paired it with IKEA's Symfonisk speakers for rear surrounds. Shame they discontinued it, as it's a great budget option for the extra speakers.

Wanted to try a juice bar/bubble tea shop on the way home from the shops today, but noticed that had two AI-generated posters up, as I was looking at the selection. Instant nope from me! As soon as I see any AI-generated imagery in your advertising, that's an automatic no for me giving you money.
