Secretary of State Gregg M. Amore today released the following statement on yesterday's Supreme Court ruling in Trump v. California. Read the full release: www.ri.gov/press/view/5... The ruling has no impact on primary election mail ballots.
"Voting by mail is a safe, secure, and convenient option for millions of voters each election. The Administration is intent on inventing reasons to sow doubt around mail ballots – even as the President takes advantage of mail voting himself.

I want to be clear: yesterday's Supreme Court ruling has no impact on primary election mail ballots, and it is yet to be determined if the elements of the Executive Order that impact mail ballots are lawful and implementable by the general election in November.

Yesterday's ruling lifted an injunction that blocked parts of the Administration's executive order based on procedural issues. As the ruling itself stated, "The Court's disposition of this application does not mean that any measure taken by the......Government to implement the Order will necessarily be lawful. On that score, time will tell."1 The ruling does not preclude challenges to the merits or lawfulness of the Executive Order, and other legal challenges are ongoing.
Rhode Islanders voting by mail in the primary can be assured that their ballot will not be impacted by this decision. And I remain committed to doing everything in my power to ensure that mail ballots remain accessible for the general election and beyond. Under the United States Constitution, elections are run by the states – and we will continue to fight the federal government's overreach into your right to vote."

Secretary of State Gregg M. Amore released the following statement after the passing of Dr. Isadore Ramos.
Graphic with Secretary of State Gregg Amore logo and text:
Dr. Isadore Ramos was the embodiment of what East Providence residents call “Townie Pride,” and we Townies were extremely proud of Dr. Ramos. He was an extraordinarily accomplished student athlete, educator, community leader, and public servant who loved his city and its people. He was a barrier breaker who carried with him the associated pressures but handled those pressures with incredible grace and class. He served as a role model, mentor, and advocate for thousands of East Providence students, families, and community members, and continued to do so long after his days as an educator and elected official had come to an end. In his role as assistant superintendent of the East Providence School Department in the early 1990s, Dr. Ramos led the interview committee that chose to hire me for a position as a history teacher at East Providence High School. Graphic with Secretary of State Gregg Amore logo and text:
I will never forget the phone call when he informed me of their decision and his assurance to me that I would succeed because I knew the community. He supported me in each and every endeavor since and I will miss his counsel and friendship. In so many ways, Dr. Ramos’ life was a uniquely American story. As a good citizen and servant leader, he played a significant role in making the place he lived and worked a better place than he found it. He will be missed.
