I never needed a panel of judges to tell me that this kid is beautiful inside and out. But they did. After having the guts to enter herself into Miss Illinois Teen 2026, she went ahead and won the damn thing. A friend of mine joked that the punk singer with a beauty pageant daughter is proof that the universe has a sense of humor (I agree 😂)I don’t when this journey started for Scarlet, but I am at least partially blaming the box of hand-me-down costume dresses that my girls found in Bill Stevenson’s daughters room 15 years ago. That line, drawn from my Black Flag seven inches to a beauty pageant crown, is not one I saw coming. Sometimes children follow in footsteps; and sometimes they blaze their own trail. So have you heard the one about the punk singer and his beauty pageant daughter? The punchline goes: she was really happy…and he was really proud 🥹.“Dare ya to do what you want,Dare ya to be who you will…”. @missscarletmcilrath @missilteenusa
