I'm so happy to share that I’ll be participating on an author's panel during the 2025 Greater Pittsburgh Festival of Books! 📚 Come say hi and join the festival on Saturday, May 31 at the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh! You can learn more at pittsburghbookfestival.org

Like others have said: mood! Picking the specific author I read after knowing what genre I want is a little more complex. I guess it comes down to word of mouth, a unique concept, whether I'm looking to read something challenging or something comfortable... Some days I may as well roll a die!

And at last, we have arrived at the final day of 2024. This has been a bit of a slow reading year for me; there are so many books I haven't gotten to yet that I'm excited to find space for in the new year. But for now, here are six books that I really enjoyed this year! In no particular order:

Inside: impeccable witchy vibes, high fantasy fashion, D&D riffs, and a queer, cozy love story. This one is for the TTRPG nerds, the plant witches, the enby icons, and everyone who needs something playfully cozy (with a few dashes of chili spice) in their lives.

I can't think of a better way to break ground on the new account than by celebrating this absolute banger of a book. Loved it so much I had to buy pine berries for the shot (and to eat). HOMEGROWN MAGIC, by @jamiepacton.bsky.social and @beccapodos.bsky.social -- is out March 2025!

An advanced reading copy of HOMEGROWN MAGIC is framed by plants (plastic, so that my cat can't eat them and throw them up), and pine berries, which are like strawberries but pinkish-white instead of red, even though they taste the same (not plastic, very much for consumption).

Detective Calhoun might disagree on "criminal" 😏
