Each sage also has an appointed Guardian Retainer, often an individual adopted from a different cult whose life is bound to the defense and good health of their sage. They are (supposed to be) inseparable, with the retainer acting as the first point of contact for the sages.

020 2

Despite all this, day-to-day affairs are conducted by appointed lords, as the sages' primary purpose is to fulfill their religious and magical duties and maintain the good of the entire world as best as they are able.

Long ago, the sages swore fealty to the Elf King, with the gods having the final say over matters of elfdom. However, given their modern role as the Heritors of the dead gods, they have assumed power beyond the Elf King and now have direct control of the elves.

Elves do not age and do not die, but they can be killed. In circumstances where a sage loses their life, their immortal soul persists, being reborn into a new child who is then reared to take command of their cult. Culturally, they are not identified as a new person, but as a continuation of life.

A Sage Heritor is the religious and political leader of their god's cult. They continue caring for the persisting mana of their god, tending to the balance of the four elements, and are the final say on all political and cultural decisions of their followers.

So hey you see me draw the sages all the time, but what exactly are they? Elves are a race of immortal people who are the chosen caretakers of the four elemental gods. While the gods were slain by a mortal hero roughly 1,000 years ago, the religious duty of the four sages persists. #oc #ocsky

What's funny is I have a completely mixed Los Angeles - Louisiana accent but this quiz asked none of the questions that would have clocked the Louisiana part. mydialect.us/quiz-standar...
