well, she was extremely femmephobic/butchphobic and hated Stone Butch Blues in the '90s. So, maybe you're thinking of that? And she wasn't a fan of bodily autonomy either. Like... no one is forcing her to date touch-me-nots, yet she has to complain about stone butches

From bottom of page 129 in "Female Masculinity" (1998) by Jack Halberstam published by Duke Press, "The lesbian feminists in Stone Butch Blues are depicted as rabid detractors of butch-femme, and indeed it is no surprise to learn that the stone butch has received particularly harsh criticism from some separatist branches of lesbian feminism. Sheila Jeffreys, in an essay on the return of butch-femme in the 1990s, argues that stone butchness is about 'internalized lesbophobia' and self-hatred.33 Jeffreys understands role playing as part of a sexologist prescription' (163) for lesbian sexual relations and claims that sexologists such as Havelock Ellis are responsible for creating"

From top of page 130, "the stereotypes of the mannish lesbian and the feminine invert. Jeffreys's logic in this article is astoundingly rigid in that she sets up an either-or model of lesbian sexual response: either lesbians eroticize difference and therefore engage in role playing, sadomasochism, or other forms of dominance and submission, or lesbians might eroticize sameness and engage in "the real pleasures of a sexual relationship ... full of the double-takes and wounds of all their female and lesbian experience" (184). Obviously, within Jeffreys's model, true lesbian desire is beyond role playing. Jeffreys also attributes enormous power to the sexologists and no power to butch self-definition. As I tried to show in my last chapter, sexological theories of inversion were wholly dependent on, and interactive with, a plethora of complex self-definitions circulating within emergent communities of inverts and their lovers."

figured as much. Crunchyroll's machine translations threw some really odd lines all season long

A thread on X from マンガニメ @/_toreba_san, "#GoodbyeLara #SayonaraLara #さよならララ Hello everyone, Japanese speaker here: the whole thing with Luca is a misunderstanding. Luca starts by saying 'You're always so sudden.' Then follows up by saying 'Appearing then disappearing, getting together then breaking up.' cont. / What is confusing people is how he then follows up by saying "So many times” or 何回やった。People think this is referring to "getting together and breaking up" part but it isn't: he's referring to the 'sudden' part. He's talking about how many times she's been 'sudden.' / Basically, the 'getting together and then breaking up' only refers to how she proposed they date, but then immediately broke up with him."

oh, great. Elections Alberta is compromised.

A series of Instagram stills from TransAction Alberta. Text on white box ontop of a black and white city skyline along the river, "ALERT! TRANS ALBERTANS REPORT RECEIVING REVERTED SPEICAL BALLOTS AHEAD OF THE REFERENDUM." Multiple Trans Albertans who requested special ballots have reported errors related to their name and gender marker."

Header, "Will they accept our votes?". Text, "For the referendum, special ballots require a photocopy of your ID with your current address to confirm your identity. The voter package is so scrutinous about validating your identity that there is an entire page just about types of identification accepted. The scenario has become especially stressful for impacted trans voters" In bold, "their gender markers and names printed on their ballot, will not match their current identification." Ends emphasis. Text, "This error is harmful in many ways. From insulting the dignity of trans voters, to the potential for tossed votes. We call on Elections Alberta to correct these errors." In bold, "If your ballot is impacted, contact Elections Alberta Special Ballot Support Line at 1.877.672.1365 or visit your local Elections Alberta Office."

Do people not know the sea snake in "Goodbye, Lara" is a homage to the 1975 animated movie?

Screengrab from animated movie "Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid" (1975). The sea-witch, as a humanoid devil ray, with a red and yellow sea snake coiled around her neck, both have glowing red eyes. She says, "Once you become a human, you can never go back to being a mermaid princess."

Frame capture from the fantasy yuri anime "Goodbye, Lara" (2026). Two black and blue sea snakes perched on Grace's shoulder. They say, "She's Lady Grace, the witch."
