So will there actually be a nationwide popular vote conducted by the US Federal govt? If yes, there would need to be a nationwide voter registration. Millions of voting machines purchased, polling stations established Aggregating votes cast under 50 separate sets of state election laws is not valid

The US Federal govt has never defaulted on debt, ever. And with the ability to create money at will, it would be most unlikely to default. All financial institutions are at risk of default and failure. So it was argued that the safest place for the Trust Funds would be the Federal govt.

Right but not right @rightbutnotright.bsky.social · 10/10/2026
If the SS surplus was not spent on current govt operations then it would have to be saved in an interest bearing account. Right? So everyone would want the funds saved in the safest possible place. Since at least 1939, the safest institution has been the US Federal govt. (at least until recently).

Well the federal govt has always spent the SS surplus on the current budget. And the SS trust funds are paid back with interest.

Right but not right @rightbutnotright.bsky.social · 10/10/2026
Your assertion does not seem to be supported by SS data. Which makes sense because claiming at 62 is a poor financial decision.

No, most folks do not claim at 62. Yes, I believe moving FRA from 65 to 67 mostly just reduces benefits.

What really matters is that FRA is 67. When benefits start at age 67 rather than 65, the SSA saves two years of benefit payments for millions of retirees.
