El día 13 planeaba ir en La Palma para las Gemínidas, pero la Borrasca Emilia llegó. Desde Gran Canaria, capturé a nuestro Sol, a pesar de la mala meteorología. Usé Autostakkert para apilar el 30% de los mejores fotogramas y aquí dejo algunas fotos: monocromo, negativo, combinadas.

Os dejo por aquí una imagen de NGC 2359, la Nebulosa del Casco de Thor (o nebulosa de Stitch, según dice la heredera😉). Esta nebulosa de emisión está a 15000 años luz, en la constelación Canis Majoris. Son 50 tomas x 180". #CielosESA #Astrophotography.

Comet 88P/Howell is currently around mag. 10, showing a green coma with a smooth brightness gradient and a nearly stellar condensation, plus a faint diffuse dust tail extending 4′. Comet C/2024 E1 (Wierzchos) on March 13, already showed obvious signs of disintegration: a very diffuse greenish coma, an almost collapsed central condensation and delicate 15' curved dust tail. ☄️ Periodic comet 24P/Schaumasse was still shining near mag. 12 as it slowly receded from the inner Solar System. Yesterday I was only able to obtain a single image of comet C/2025 R3 (PANSTARRS) from the Chilean Andes. Even with just a quick processing, it was enough to confirm that the comet remains very active, revealing notable structures in its tail. Hopefully there will be better luck next night.

Comet C/2025 R3 (PANSTARRS) is fading now, but on May it still showed a striking green coma, a long ion tail extending beyond the frame, and a rapidly evolving double plasma knot. It may currently be around magnitude −2, but this is uncertain. What really matters is how it behaves this afternoon and tomorrow, after its sharp turn around the Sun. That will determine what we may be able to observe from Earth in the coming days (Animation: C/2024 G3 ATLAS, January 2025).

It is now so close to the Sun that it can also be seen in another coronagraph aboard the SOHO spacecraft: the LASCO C2 coronagraph, which has a much narrower field of view. The comet still appears very compact — a good sign — in the red-toned (false color) image. 🧵

Do you remember this great traveler? Two years ago I imaged comet 12P/Pons-Brooks from home (Bortle 5). It was showing a spectacular ion tail extending well beyond the 2° field. In the green coma you can even spot a spiral structure revealing the nucleus rotation. 🔗 cometografia.es/12p-pons-bro...

Comet C/2024 E1 (Wierzchos) imaged at ~mag. 9, showing a vivid turquoise gas coma. The ion tail has faded significantly, now only visible near the nucleus (~1.5°), while two dust tails (~1°) remain well defined. Comet 24P/Schaumasse clearly fading (mag. 10.6), still shows a well-defined green coma with strong central condensation and a short faint gas/dust tail. I really like the Tycho Tracker workflow, but I still get more detail and total magnitude measurements with less scatter around the mean the old-fashioned way: Stacked version with Astrometrica, gradient correction in PixInsight, and measurements with Astrometrica & Comphot. #astronomy
