Spent the last four days getting out to Kentucky to visit family and I am having a fun adventure but I miss my friends and the time difference is not helping (3 hours ahead of everyone)

A friend of mine told me when he was sitting in on a harsh noise "jam" that he used a DOD Death Metal as his eq/noise generator into a synth and other effects and I finally gave it a try yesterday and now I seemed to have entered my bullshit arc

tonight I crossed that line from "silly fantasy" to "possible reality" with someone I thought I had completely incinerated the bridge with and now I am terrified, but like in a good way the next few days will illuminate things I'm sure

this isn't to dissuade you on picking up an instrument. I always encourage people at any point in their life to learn an instrument. I was more pointing out that any jokes or people claiming "bass is for failed guitarists" is made by people who think bass is just for playing root notes

I have a bunch of Boss pedals of varied decades (at least 3 from the early 80s) and they all sound great, even in a big daisy chain (another perceived evil). If there is "tone suck" it is superficial at best. The cost cutting idea is absolutely on point.

I would say guitar. Guitar I always found allowed me to play a little fast and loose on accuracy whereas I feel the need to lock in more on bass That could be a passions thing too, I like playing bass more, always have. Prolly because I believe in a VERY strong rhythm section

"Buffers bad" was just a myth started by Big Booteek to sell individual buffer pedals instead of incorporating them into circuits

as someone who started on bass and then picked up a guitar a couple years in, I want you to know that bass playing is a very different discipline and it is NOT for failed guitarists the role and power a bass player has is more intrinsic than the guitarist and very easy to fumble

it's likely an overdrive, fuzz, phaser, tape delay and maybe a reverb going into a Fender or Vox not exactly getting that weird with it from the sound of the recording

depending who you ask, this will increase or decrease the value of these, but evidently Blasphemer used one on Ordo ad Chao for all the guitar parts.

It's so fucking weird having a Chinese Marshall knock off (Bugera) that is legit way louder than my actual Marshall (DSL100) Shit, even my solid state Marshall (MG100HDFX) is louder

You could also try mouser, but if digikey no have, mouser prolly won't either.

Ugh, I feel this so much. After over a year of it just being my dad and I (basically constant low volume) we are now basking in the presence of my brother, his wife, kids and pets and all any of them do is argue and yell. And those are the least invasive aspects.

I mean, there are lots of booteek options but most are like $300 and all you get extra is a cool picture on the housing and either a blend knob (yuck) or extra eq knobs that just disrupt the hm2 from doing the thing. I got a 1984 MIJ HM2 w/box and in great shape for $132. Easy decision.

a Metal Zone can kinda get you there, but the distortion character is a little more polite compared to a Rat

riffsnoleads [disrocker brundlefly say] @riffsnoleads.bsky.social · 31/08/2026
just don't get a HM-2 Waza, Boss increased the output gain, which actually changed how the pedal interacts with amps and completely fucked up the chainsaw thing. you can get a MIJ (if the matters [it doesn't]) on Ebay usually for pretty cheap from Japan. US sellers are scumfucks on pricing.

riffsnoleads [disrocker brundlefly say] @riffsnoleads.bsky.social · 31/08/2026
if going the EQ>distortion route, use a Marshall amp sim (mid gain, more upper mids) and use a Rat pedal sim (tons of them) with a simple 6 band EQ, like a Boss GE-7 this video shows the way to go this route> www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ju8r...

most plugins of the HM2 have WAY too much of the "digital hi-fi icepick treble" issue. It's gets worse when you run the HM2 into a dirty amp sim (proper saw technique). that said, the Audiority Heavy Pedal is pretty good, if you set the input gain correctly it mostly does the thing

currently own both and the Eyemaster is very good but it is NOT exactly 1:1 with the HM-2. Certainly pretty close, but it has way more treble and lacks the "cchhhunnnggggguuuhhh" sound the HM-2 has.

well it only took almost 3 weeks to get a fuse but I was finally able to finish/test the DSL mods today unfortunately, I don't recall what it sounded like beforehand that well, but I can tell the gain is much more manageable just going to assume the tone stack is improved.

jfc, my older brother w/wife and kids are moving back in with me and my dad and they are all sitting around discussing the acceptable levels of police state to use to manage the children. it's bad enough knowing that they use cameras in their children's rooms to monitor their behavior. ugh

well the Marshall DSL100H mod is on hold until I have more money, BUT I did successfully mod my Marshall MG100HDFX. It didn't change much except reduce the gain slightly. Burnt a trace while doing it but luckily I could see where it went and just had to pop in a wire.

pro tip, verify you need a slow blow or fast blow fuse before purchasing....

riffsnoleads [disrocker brundlefly say] @riffsnoleads.bsky.social · 08/08/2026
Did the Headfirst mod. Jason Tong has a video and schematic with all the necessary steps. Only shitty thing is one of the electrolytic caps he calls for is no longer made and I had to sub it with a regular filter cap, hopefully that is satisfactory, but I have the original part for that spot still

Marshall DSL 100H. I fired the amp up and immediately blew a fuse. I am hoping it was because I didn't hook up a few connectors that got missed. Now the hunt for a replacement fuse and more nail biting.

riffsnoleads [disrocker brundlefly say] @riffsnoleads.bsky.social · 08/08/2026
nervously sucking down a cigarette before I fire up an amp I just heavily modded this is the most in depth mod I have ever done and I keep worrying some of the parts are not the right power handling

replaced the spring reverb in a little combo amp I have for fucking around and I think I got the wrong tank. I can't decide if I want to try and dump the amp or figure out some way to reduce the reverb intensity. I spose I could try another tank but I don't really want to put more into this pos

Happy to hear it! I feel like a lot of the hate people have toward the NS-2 is due to them not utilizing the loop. I know the first time I had one I had no idea what it was for and did not find the noise reduction effective unless absolutely destructive, I am glad I decided to learn and try again.
010
riffsnoleads [disrocker brundlefly say] @riffsnoleads.bsky.social · 02/08/2026
A little tip, putting the Metal Zone in the NS2 loop (send/return) will yield more effective results with less note cut off. Requires two more cables but totally worth it.

riffsnoleads [disrocker brundlefly say] @riffsnoleads.bsky.social · 26/07/2026
Another thing to consider, all Livewire cables have a lifetime warranty. Any dealer (Guitar Center being the most common) will just give you one to replace it if it is broken. Kind of a no brainer there, especially considering their cost.

riffsnoleads [disrocker brundlefly say] @riffsnoleads.bsky.social · 26/07/2026
if a daisy chain blew up a pedal that was almost certainly operator error

riffsnoleads [disrocker brundlefly say] @riffsnoleads.bsky.social · 26/07/2026
I've been using the same 4 livewire cables for nearly 15 years and only once have any of the connections broke. easy fix

riffsnoleads [disrocker brundlefly say] @riffsnoleads.bsky.social · 26/07/2026
Everything you mentioned aside from the power supply (which may be untrue now, idk, I use a daisy chain) can be had for much less than stated and if they fail are easy to fix.

As I told someone else, I can stamp out my Boss pedals with absolutely no regard and never have to worry. Random Booteek pedal? Explodes and cannot be easily replaced if I look at it wrong. ODB3 FTFW!

Whaddaya mean you don't want another TS9, Big Muff, DM2, Rat or Klone clone with a "unique" and "exciting" print on the casing? Did you even consider what you are doing to the booteek market with this post? Sidebar: people who hate Boss have never been on the road.
