🧠 Almost half of all Americans will have a mental health disorder within their lifetime. Rates are even higher for those who identify as LGBTQIA+. Mental health is just as important as physical health. No matter what you are facing, even if it seems ‘like nothing,’ you don’t have to do it alone. 🫂

Scientists believe that lobsters can live to 100. These creatures are often used for food by being dropped in boiling water still alive. While they may have different biology than mammals, lobsters do indeed feel pain. Celebrate these long-living sea animals by not supporting this cruel practice.

Shana Tova! 🍎 Apples and honey are a traditional staple for celebrating the Jewish New Year. But if you are looking for ways to celebrate compassionately this year, consider swapping the honey. 🐝
Shava Tova; Celebrating rosh hashanah with apples? swipe for compassionate alternatives to honey. What’s wrong with honey? Making honey is a huge task. It takes 12 bees their entire life to make just a teaspoon of honey. Honey is the food source for healthy hives, helping larvae to become bees and keeping hives alive during the winter. What about beekeeping? Unlike most animal agriculture industries, death is not the end goal. however, casualties are far too common. in recent years, more than half of all bee colonies used in the industry have died over each winter. And commercial beekeeping operations negatively impact native bees and other wild pollinators.Alternative syrups: agave, date, maple, molasses

🥔🥔 It is National Potato Day! 🥔🥔 In honor of this beloved starchy vegetable, let’s learn more about these powerhouse root veggies.
Potatoes are the most consumed vegetable (by far) in the U.S.

The average American eats 110 pounds of them every year! There is some variation with types of potato, but all potatoes have incredibly low carbon footprints. They also use very little water. For example, sweet potatoes require 12 gallons of water per 4 ounces of food, much less than the average food, especially animal products.Potatoes are fat- and cholesterol-free and calorically dense. They contain resistant starch, vitamin C, potassium, fiber, and more. Eating them with their skin provides the biggest nutrient punch.

Today is #Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day. ✊🏿 ✊🏾 The fight did not end in 1865. Regardless of the color of our skin, we can all learn, share, and act. As Frannie Lou Hamer said, “nobody’s free until everybody’s free.” So, let’s celebrate and keep fighting for equal freedom.
Juneteenth Freedom Day June 19thWhat is Juneteenth? The Emancipation Proclamation technically took effect on January 1, 1863. However, this was during the civil war. slaves in union states were unaffected and those in confederate states ignored the new rule. It wasn’t until June 19, 1865, two months after the surrender of the confederacy, that slaves in galveston, texas learned they’re free. this where the names “juneteenth” and “freedom day” both come from. Slavery was officially ABOLISHED in the U.S. in December 1865 with the ratification of the tHIRTEENTH amendment. Juneteenth was designated as a federal holiday in 2021.Juneteenth is part of our history, no matter our skin color. One great way to spend the day is to start getting educated or teach others if you are already knowledgeable. Other ways to explore? Visit a black museum or attend a local Juneteenth event.Visit black-owned businesses. Donate time or funds to black-focused nonprofits. Enjoy red foods, like strawberry bakes, hibiscus tea, and plant-based barbecue. Participate in a walk, such as Opal’s Walk for Freedom (virtual or in-person). Assess your life and workplace for equity and improvement.
