Ricky McAllister @rickymca.bsky.social · 20hReally hope you enjoy it Richie. Takes a few listens but the album rewards that. 010
Ricky McAllister @rickymca.bsky.social · 20hSuperb trio Joe. They were really on fire with Black Sheep Boy. Some of it is jusy astonishingly good. 120
Ricky McAllister @rickymca.bsky.social · 20hOh good. Very welcome. Harrow & Harvest is another high-water mark for me. 110
Ricky McAllister @rickymca.bsky.social · 20hVery special album to me Richie. Some of the best songwriting I’ve ever heard, lyrically astonishing. Not for everyone, but I absolutely adore it. 220
Ricky McAllister @rickymca.bsky.social · 21hGreat list Jonny…would have put money on Joy Zipper making an appearance 😁 130
Ricky McAllister @rickymca.bsky.social · 21hGreat picks Phil…great to see Gillian get some love😊👌 110
Ricky McAllister @rickymca.bsky.social · 21hUnfortunately they aren’t the same band now Steven, the last 2 albums were ostensibly Will Sheff solo albums, which he is now doing seemingly exclusively. The last OR album was hugely disappointing but they had a spectacular run from Black Sheep Boy through to Silver Gymnasium. 110
Ricky McAllister @rickymca.bsky.social · 23hGood to meet another fan. Not a band I hear mentioned too often on here 😊 110
Ricky McAllister @rickymca.bsky.social · 04/10/2026It’s an absolute masterpiece Tom. Those two albums you have fit together as a pair so well. 010

Ricky McAllister @rickymca.bsky.social · 03/10/2026So jealous that you have Vivadixie on wax Carl…what an album! 011
Ricky McAllister @rickymca.bsky.social · 03/10/2026One of the artists owed an apology Carl…it would have been Wonderful Life for me though. Vivadixie on wax…you lucky, lucky man😂 110
Ricky McAllister @rickymca.bsky.social · 03/10/2026#My9Albums Seems to be doing the rounds, so thought I’d play. Only in a rough order. With apologies to unfairly left out albums. 4300

Ricky McAllister @rickymca.bsky.social · 03/10/2026#NowPlaying Expert in a Dying Field | The Beths One of my favourite albums of recent years, courtesy of (IMHO) 1 of the best bands around these days. They have a way with hooks & self-deprecating lyrics that sucks me in every time. Their high-water mark to date is a masterclass front to back. 0100
Ricky McAllister @rickymca.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Not sure I’ve ever dared sample something made by a pupil😂 110
Ricky McAllister @rickymca.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Even a discussion about a Christmas Chip makes me want to vomit. Last Christmas I had my first ever Christmas chip with the senior department in my school. It wiped out 23 staff members with food poisoning, carpet bombed an entire department of the school out. Brutal. 120
Ricky McAllister @rickymca.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Something exhilarating about that kind of communal experience 110
Ricky McAllister @rickymca.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Still remember watching Calvary in QFT Colin. Went in totally blind, stunning film. Even more memorable was the entire cinema filing out in total silence, following the shattering, astonishing final scenes. Such a tangible impact on everyone in the cinema. 110
Ricky McAllister @rickymca.bsky.social · 01/10/20265 favourite Irish films…as of right now: Garage (Abrahamson) Once (Carney) Calvary (McDonagh) The Quiet Girl (Bairéad) The Secret of Kells (Moore/Twomey) #FilmSky 280
Ricky McAllister @rickymca.bsky.social · 30/09/2026He sure did Chris…some run during the 80s and early 90s 020
Ricky McAllister @rickymca.bsky.social · 30/09/2026One of those bands like Cellar Doors & East Village where you wonder what happened? 1 superb album and they call it a day 110
Ricky McAllister @rickymca.bsky.social · 30/09/20265 favourite British films…as of right now: The Hit (Frears) Withnail & I (Robinson) A Room for Romeo Brass (Meadows) The Third Man (Reed) Brazil (Gilliam) 191
Ricky McAllister @rickymca.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Stuttgart in particular is a stunning track Richie…the standout on a fine album for me. Actually reminds of Radiohead, the sort of thing they might have put together during the Ok Computer/Kid A era. No higher compliment from me! 110
Ricky McAllister @rickymca.bsky.social · 30/09/2026#NowPlaying To The Black Sea | Portrayal Totally new to me, thanks to @richierouse.bsky.social. Indiebeat named them the ‘Best kept secret in the indie/alt world’ in 2013. Hear Victories at Sea, Editors & even Interpol at times. Atmospheric, brooding & very good. Well worth checking out. 260

Ricky McAllister @rickymca.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Great story! Epic45 & Radio Dept at the same festival…ain’t that something👌😊 110
Ricky McAllister @rickymca.bsky.social · 30/09/2026In my view yes. I like Takk well enough, but it sits outside my top 5. To my ears, ( ) is the definitive statement of their signature sound/style, but Valtari is their most hauntingly beautiful and emotional album, and still my favourite. As the critic says, “enough emotion to fill an ocean”. 020
Ricky McAllister @rickymca.bsky.social · 29/09/2026I’ll say this quietly Vincent, but I have only listened to Ocean Rain & Crocodiles as they are the only albums I own. Imagine this confession will appall you😁 110
Ricky McAllister @rickymca.bsky.social · 29/09/2026#NowPlaying Valtari | Sigur Ros So much of this album is breathtakingly beautiful & not sure Jonsi’s falsetto has ever sounded better. Interesting that Georg Holm remarked “it's the only Sigur Rós record I have listened to for pleasure in my own house after we've finished it.”. Stunning. 2111
Ricky McAllister @rickymca.bsky.social · 29/09/2026Seems to be going down a treat with the critics and the fans Vincent. Read a review that said it is their strongest album in 20 years 110
Ricky McAllister @rickymca.bsky.social · 29/09/2026It’s what is great about this place…just passing it along 😊 Nothing beats the thrill of discovering a new artist/band 👍 111
Ricky McAllister @rickymca.bsky.social · 29/09/2026I’ve downloaded it for the commute tomorrow Richie…it’s also available on Bandcamp for future reference. Which no doubt I’ll be calling on! 110
Ricky McAllister @rickymca.bsky.social · 29/09/2026Brilliant Richie. Late is one of my favourite songs this century, but that run of tracks from 1-5 is stunningly good. 030

Ricky McAllister @rickymca.bsky.social · 29/09/2026Hope you enjoy it. Side A in particular is pretty flawless. 220
Ricky McAllister @rickymca.bsky.social · 28/09/2026I always liked it Chris…it was good to see Philip Baker Hall with a meaty central role for once. Found it to be a (unsurprisingly) well written & tightly wound neo-noir character piece, without his later visual pizazz 😊 010
Ricky McAllister @rickymca.bsky.social · 28/09/2026Hard Eight…it’s been a while Chris, but remember thinking the evolution from that to Boogie Nights is quite something. Don’t know the other two however… 110
