It's such a shame that this one motion has overshadowed other policies passed at the conference. It was inevitable that this would be the thing that the UK press would focus on and it's either politically naive on behalf of those who raised the motion or deliberately disruptive.

We have spent the last few hundred years polluting our planet sacrificing nature for mammon. We look out at the world and see the ugly realism of so called advancement in the concrete buildings and scorched earth. AI will make this worse.

We have made advances in medicine that means we are capable to treat many diseases and maintain an amazing standard of life for the majority of the population but our economic system keeps the treatments and cures from all but the wealthy. AI will do nothing to help here.

Maybe the first question to ask about AI is "Why do we need it?" We live in a world that has the resources to feed and nurture the population but our economic system prevents this - AI will do nothing to solve this problem.

I agree Amalia. I think he's vastly oversimplified the whole thing and is basing the logic on one scenario which is increasingly rare nowadays. It takes no account of the swap market or the concept of Fund Marts which are the backbone of much of the second charge lending market.

The statement I was making is that the riding position of a legal escooter means that when involved in an incident you are more likely to suffer head injuries than on any sort of legal bicycle. The standing position is not a safe position to be in when involved in a collision.
010
Richard in Bristol @rickybrs.bsky.social · 08/08/2026
I think your conclusion is correct but the comparison you should make is the difference between a collision on a legal e scooter and a legal bicycle (powered or otherwise). The small wheels and upright stance of a scooter lead to forward momentum causing more head trauma than a bike.
