This was my favorite film that came out the year I was an 18-year-old film student who’d just started college. I would spend the next year shooting a 40-minute film that was definitely inspired by it. I categorized my movie (which was called Paranoia) as a “surrealistic action horror comedy.”

This was published in an evening paper in Harrisburg, PA in 1945. My older bros have explained that Dad came home one night during that decade & said “Boys, this is something new. It’s called pizza.” They had some even though not yet ‘teen-agers. By the time I was born it was taken for granted.

During my day, I do things like grab a paper towel & think “Through most of human history, no one had this!” Then I look it up to see when it began. (They’ve only existed since 1907. In 1931, Scott Paper Co. introduced the first rolled paper towels designed specifically for home and kitchen use.)

I suspect that this year’s September 11, less than two weeks away, will be a profoundly stirring one for the nation. I think it will prove to be a very dramatic day, especially since Clinton, Bush, and Obama will appear at the 25th anniversary commemoration in Manhattan and Trump is not going.
