Hey, Kiwis abroad: I just learned that Zedazeni and Natakhtari, two soft-drink brands from Georgia, make feijoa lemomade. And export it to Berlin, which implies that they also export it to other places, too. Might be worth checking your local Georgian joint. :)

I want the opposite of that. Dodgers, White Sox, slugfest. I like both those teams so no matter what, I win: either the Dodgers three-peat or the White Sox pull off a Cinderella story.

So it made me particularly happy to learn this week about John Urschel, a guard who retired from the NFL at age 26 to pursue mathematics, then got his PhD from MIT. Apparently, he recently published some groundbreaking research resolving a question in his field.

So I don't follow American football at all, at any level, but I did play flag football as a kid for a few years. Surprising no one who knows me, I was an offensive lineman, and would've stayed there if I'd accepted the high school coach's recruitment invitation.

I strongly suspect that the BBC does still employ and commission good, inquisitive reporters and editors but some of their colleagues and many of their bosses are ... less good. As at many news orgs around the Western world at least (can't comment on other regions due to lack of familiarity).
