RickChasey @rickchasey.bsky.social · 4hIn all seriousness, are we saying American ships are gonna be heading to Russian docks? 151
RickChasey @rickchasey.bsky.social · 4hYikes. I once asked you about the time signature of Pyramid Song. More you vibe, I feel (You concluded it was, in the end, 4:4) 110
RickChasey @rickchasey.bsky.social · 4hLooks like Ukraine is gonna have to step up hitting the ruskie refineries even more. “What diesel have they made, Mr President?” 161
RickChasey @rickchasey.bsky.social · 14hHahaha. You say this, I rode home on it, showed the wife. First thing she said “Isn’t it a little big for you?” 😔 120
RickChasey @rickchasey.bsky.social · 14hHa, I felt like a really big boy because my bike shop fitter guy said I didn't need to get the extra tiny frame for my new bike.static.klipy.comCurious Child's Playful GazeALT: Curious Child's Playful Gaze 120
RickChasey @rickchasey.bsky.social · 14hMy Kona Paddy Wagon had them. I had no problems with them at all, but it was a simple singlespeed/fixie with rim brakes. 010
RickChasey @rickchasey.bsky.social · 14hNot quite what you want from a bike. A mate warned me off Rysel - he's quite connected amongst bike mechanics and they seem to have *strong* views on the ways in which they make it affordable - weird nuts & bolts and stuff. (not my forte...) 130
RickChasey @rickchasey.bsky.social · 14hI almost bought this very bike, had they not sold out of it in my size. Dodged a bullet! 220
RickChasey @rickchasey.bsky.social · 14h(it's not perfect either, but I can't really remember the last time a novel stayed with me as long as this one has) 000
RickChasey @rickchasey.bsky.social · 14hOld one, and it is a miserable read (so if you're not into that...!) but I cannot stop thinking about Shuggie Bain by Douglas Stewart. 6 months after reading it my mind keeps going to back to it all the time - moments across the whole book too. It's a hard read but it's remarkable. 100
RickChasey @rickchasey.bsky.social · 14hAt least she's coughs up policies that you'd expect from a party labelled "green". 000
RickChasey @rickchasey.bsky.social · 15hMan who exploited women’s body image issues with snake oil breast enlargement hypnosis also has other problematic views with minorities. Who knew. Misogyny is such a reliable indicator for other terrible opinions. 010
RickChasey @rickchasey.bsky.social · 15hIt’s just you, regardless of what is a condition or not. Variety is the spice of life. I’m in sales - used to work alongside someone obviously autistic. Guy was a sales machine and a great boss - always the facts, always outcome oriented. Takes all sorts. That’s the joy of it! 010
RickChasey @rickchasey.bsky.social · 17h(So eg I arrived at the end product sooner than most which gave me more time to put the product into a document, which took me fucking ages) 010
RickChasey @rickchasey.bsky.social · 17hYeah. I try to frame it as a different set of strengths & weaknesses and you need to allow the strengths to give you the room to work on your weaknesses. In a well suited job this should at the very least balance out. 210
RickChasey @rickchasey.bsky.social · 17hYeah this is true. A lot of being a junior is being told x way to do it, and when you’re senior you have the liberty to do it Y way and achieve a result with a lot less grief. 000
RickChasey @rickchasey.bsky.social · 17hYeah I must say, part of the reason I am quite strong on this “find a solution not an excuse” is my own diagnosis is both strong “very dyslexic” but also shows up in relatively unconventional ways so by the time of my diagnosis I had found a lot of solutions which hid a lot of it. 110
RickChasey @rickchasey.bsky.social · 17hSome colleagues delight in sharing them to me..! It’s frustrating. I’m really keen to support some of my neurodiverse colleagues to find solutions, genuinely. Too often they really don’t want them 000
RickChasey @rickchasey.bsky.social · 17hYeah. I increasingly think the attitude of “I don’t have to do this I have x” is fostered in school. 100
RickChasey @rickchasey.bsky.social · 17h100%. And we have all seen viral clips of lazy grads online using their neurodiversity to justify their own refusal to take on the jobs they are capable of doing. 100
RickChasey @rickchasey.bsky.social · 17hYeah up to a point - but then, you need to flag that stuff *before* you join or take on the role in case it means you can’t do the job properly. In my job for example, the differentiator isn’t the writing, but writing is nonetheless a part of the job. If you can’t write, you can’t do the job. 100
RickChasey @rickchasey.bsky.social · 18h I am totally convinced this is driving the backlash we’re witnessing. 100
RickChasey @rickchasey.bsky.social · 18hSo, back in the day, I never mentioned my diagnosis to my bosses, for fear of being sacked, so when my work was sub par along the lines of my own neurodiversity, I just had to work really hard (lots of late nights) to solve it. So when they hear the new grad say “nah, I have x” they are suspicious 210
RickChasey @rickchasey.bsky.social · 18hFWIW my advice is always “the diagnosis will never change the work or the required outcome. All that changes is the solution we come up with” And then I go to the various options. If they really feel they can’t do their job with how their brain works…well… 100
RickChasey @rickchasey.bsky.social · 18hOr “you need to improve your organisation” “But I have adhd” I see the same in my daughter’s class. Obviously neurodivergent children are excused from various tasks. This creates major resentment and makes people suspicious of the motives for raising the diagnosis. 100
RickChasey @rickchasey.bsky.social · 18hWhat’s changed is, more often than not, neurodiversity is only mentioned in the context of poor work performance, and inevitably is brought up by the person in the form of an excuse. Eg “your written work is bad” “I’m dyslexic I shouldn’t have to do it” 100
RickChasey @rickchasey.bsky.social · 18hI have mentioned it on here before - the attitude of neurodiverse grads coming out of school is wrecking the reputation and it’s not really about neurodiversity. I’m the neurodiversity lead within my own business and sit on various industry bodies related to it. 110
RickChasey @rickchasey.bsky.social · 18hOption 2 listed here - splitting off the Swiss business - is the only possible one here. It would take a brave/suicidal compliance person to take on that rogue’s gallery of private banking clients. 010
RickChasey @rickchasey.bsky.social · 08/10/2026Because they’re inherently anti EU. It’s only that Brexit was so bad that those who are coming to power aren’t advocating their own national exit from it! 000
RickChasey @rickchasey.bsky.social · 08/10/2026Well, in a pinch, if my local Co Op is anything to go by, you can grab them there too..! 000
RickChasey @rickchasey.bsky.social · 08/10/2026What a beer choice. You too have been spending too much time in the special offer booze section at the Co op? I preferred this one in the end 100
RickChasey @rickchasey.bsky.social · 08/10/2026Is it not just the drinking age in America is 21 so you need a lot of organisation to get drunk in a group when you’re an undergrad? No such problems for uni students 110
RickChasey @rickchasey.bsky.social · 08/10/2026Who knew that a governance structure that relied heavily on racism to justify its own existence was in fact not meritocratic and inherently unstable. 010
RickChasey @rickchasey.bsky.social · 08/10/2026What is it that seems to make every Westerner under 35 despondent about their country and future, and why is it always the fault of failure to build enough houses where people want to live? 000
RickChasey @rickchasey.bsky.social · 08/10/2026It's more, there are a whole bunch of leaders or soon-to-be-leaders of major EU countries who are instinctively opposed to the EU, and would be advocating their own national exit had Brexit not demonstrated the folly of doing so. I can't see their interest in expanding EU membership period. 000
RickChasey @rickchasey.bsky.social · 08/10/2026I think they do - they're continuing the recent tradition of being the party for pensioners. 1151
RickChasey @rickchasey.bsky.social · 08/10/2026Am genuinely surprised! Between (legitimate) Hokey Cokey concerns, the enormous shift rightwards amongst pretty much all member states and the can of worms it opens, I struggle to see their incentive for opening this one up. 200
RickChasey @rickchasey.bsky.social · 08/10/2026I'm a Brit so I don't fully get the culture wars stuff, but it sounds like the reasonable observation made here on social stigma etc, is one that nefarious actors (like JD Vance) use to promote a nefarious "solution". 000
RickChasey @rickchasey.bsky.social · 08/10/2026So, there has been quite a bit of meta analysis on what conditions correlate with fertility, and the only reliable & consistent condition is an inverse relationship with wealth. I also think the worry about depopulation is overblown. I also find my experience correlates with the FT articleeconomist.comHumanity will shrink, far sooner than you thinkDemography sneaks up on you 100
