It doesn't work like that. Trump or Hegseth can't just fire them and replace them with loyalists willy nilly. Senior officers like generals can only be removed by court martial. And new ones can only be promoted by being confirmed by the Senate.

And presidential pardons don't cover state crimes. So if the president sent his henchmen to kidnap people in their states, or to tamper with ballots, the henchmen could be tried in state court. Federalism might be what saves us in the end.

The US is starting to look more and more like an elected monarchy. The president is immune from anything he does while in office, he has absolute authority over gov agencies, and he can ignore the courts. Which means he can ignore the law and therefore Congress. What is the name of this? A king.

And that structure wouldn't be unique to fascism either. It's the same structure of absolute monarchy, military juntas and certain marxist leninists states like the USSR under Stalin. Fascism also requires ideology to be considered fascism.

What's even more absurd is the practical reality that the court is ignoring. If the president can fire anyone, there will be no one left in the gov who will refuse illegal orders from him. So if course he will start ignoring court rulings. The Supreme Court is giving away their own power.

Fucking ridiculous. The Supreme Court now allows the president to fire the heads of independent agencies that regulate corporations. Just not the chairman of the Fed though, because that would be catastrophic for the economy. Most bad faith court ever.

Any reforms we make to prevent this from happening again must include turning the DOJ into an independent agency. They should be headed by an independent bipartisan board with staggered terms just like the Fed. This is critical and it's crazy no one is talking about it.

Not really. Only 10% of israelis have dual citizenship. The other 90% can't simply move to a different country, immigration isn't easy. Also the state of Israel would still be right there. People may move, but a state can't.

Unironically they should buy up the domains for about 60 defunct local newspapers in swing states. Hire two reporters to write almost exclusively about highschool sports and new restaurants opening with every 10th article about how the local GOP is screwing over people.
