DIGGING DEEP: There was a lot of traffic around Richmond Gate yesterday morning and afternoon (see photo 2). The cause was temporary lights (photo 1) which have been put up while Thames Water repairs pipework. (1/3)

HUNT FOR HEROES: Help us find two cyclists who came to the aid of a man after he collapsed in the park on Sunday morning. Kush Gor, who is one of our subscribers, stopped to help. Please read his account ⬇️ and contact us if you know the two mystery men so we can pass on their details. Thanks!
This morning whilst doing ballet laps I witnessed a walker stagger then fall face first onto the floor outside the ballet school. Whilst on the phone to 999 and doing chest compressions, a passing runner and I were desperately trying to find someone who could fetch a defibrillator.

Eventually a pair of cyclists did just that, retrieving one I believe from one of the cafes. After applying the defib it analysed his heart rhythm and the gentleman did indeed require a shock which once delivered seemed to revive him somewhat. There were a number of runners who also helped with chest compressions thereafter.

Once the paramedics arrived they delivered another shock and took over care.

There was a moment whilst doing compressions when the ambulance had not yet arrived and there was no defib where it looked like this man was dying beneath me. I do not know if he has survived but the paramedics said that we probably saved his life.

I am writing only to see if there is anyway to identify the two cyclists who retrieved the defib. If this man (he managed to tell me his name was “Mike” before becoming unresponsive) survives, it will largely be down to these two good Samaritans.

MIND THE GAP: Watch out for this hazard if you are cycling on the westbound shared use path alongside the A3 while the park is closed at night for the deer cull. The thin gap next to the slip road that leads to Asda’s car park is roughly the width of a road bike tyre - making it easy to ride into.

GETTING A GRIP: Last winter, salt spread on the park’s roads to prevent ice attracted moisture - which, combined with dust & spilt fuel, created a slippery surface. This year The Royal Parks has used a different type of salt to alleviate the issue. Nevertheless, please take care in cold conditions.

YOU WOODEN BELIEVE IT: Someone has smashed into the posts by Roehampton Gate. You can still cycle through the wooden gate as normal. It’s thought that a lorry driver went into the turning at the wrong angle - but that’s just a theory as they didn’t hang around and no witnesses have come forward.
