My parents died in a car crash when I was 8 months old.

I like the idea of historic preservation. I like the idea of preserving the tree canopy. But here in Seattle, the historic preservation folks and the tree people have totally lost me.

I prefer riding my bicycle to taking transit, because my bicycle is more reliable.

I've lived in the Seattle area since 1974, and it never ceases to amaze me that we have a highway that is literally called a "Speedway".

My close calls as a pedestrian have been from divers making right turns on GREEN. Drivers just suck.

I wish they’d do that to the MAMIL equivalent drivers.

Except we don’t, and I have no faith that we suddenly will. Especially these days when funding is tight.

The MAMILs hate the wiggles even more than I do.

As someone who relies on my bicycle for transportation, I view at grade rail as just another road hazard that could kill me.

Even more fun when you're towing a trailer.

I came of age during the Nixon administration and considered him a dipshit. What is it that you find genuinely impressive about him?

I'm always on high alert when I use the parking "protected" bike lanes on Green Lake Dr N and Linden Ave N. Drivers can't see me, and I can't see them.

It's like how SDOT teased us with a cool new bike/ped tunnel under Montlake and then a few months later closed it for five years. I'm an old guy. I may not live to see the end of some of these closures.

You mean the bridge that almost but not quite makes a connection from the 520 trail to the arboretum? I never ride it because it doesn't take me anywhere useful.

At grade rail is hazardous for bicyclists. We've already had riders killed or injured on our current tracks. A few years ago I crashed on a remnant of the old waterfront street car line. Street car tracks make our streets even more dangerous for those of us who ride.

I haven't trusted Republicans since the Nixon administration. Democrats are at least worth fact checking.

I swear that the Seattle DOT must have a regulation that says that all bike lanes must incorporate arbitrary wiggles. Interesting experience when you're pulling a trailer.

True for human written code. Especially true for AI generated code.

I moved to Seattle during the gas shortages in the winter of 1973-74. Long lines at the pump. Even/odd days. I started getting myself around by bicycle, and I have ever since.

I always worry when my bike is in the bus cargo bay, although I've done it a few times with ok results. Wenatchee to Chelan is a nice bike ride on the east side of the Columbia. On the west side I'd take Navarre Coulee instead of the scary tunnel unless I was in a hurry.

As someone who bikes through Montlake, this feels like a giant leap sideways. They built a nice bike/ped overpass, but that just replaced a trail under the bridge. The underpass to the Bill Dawson Trail was awesome for a few months, but now it's closed until 2030.

My biggest regret about being car free is not being able to drive to bicycling events in Wenatchee and Chelan. So many fun places to ride.

Does this also apply if you're riding in a car? I mean, it has wheels, and it kills lots of people every year. My parents died in a car when I was just a kid. Quit pretending that cars are safe and bicycles dangerous.

I used to be a bicycle commuter, but now I'm retired. I still rely on my bike for most of my transportation needs. I want to get paid for riding to the grocery store, medical appointments, and all the other places I need to be. Non-commute trips are important too.

I recall when I was five or six years old obsessing over what it would feel like to have nails driven through my flesh and wondering whether I had the kind of faith to withstand martyrdom. I didn't.

Thanks. The article does not specify that the 20 ships are tankers. It also says nothing about US escorts. More Trump lies, I guess.

When I rode the TransAm in 2016, we started in Virginia, and it rained every day until we were past the Appalachians. I resolved to never again complain about Seattle rain.

In the 70s and 80s there was next to no cycling infrastructure. Vehicular cycling was both a set of survival skills and a movement asserting the right of cyclists to access the transportation system. I'm glad we got the right to ride in the street, but if there's a good bike path, I'll take it.

I used ChatGPT a few years ago to write a python program to reformat a file. It was very useful, but I haven’t had much reason to use it since. My daughter uses it to find recipes that she will substantially modify as she cooks. I can’t imagine what I’d use it for daily.

Back in the 70s I used a rain cape and liked it. Then rain capes went out of fashion, and I switched to rain jackets. When the Cleverhood cape came out, I ordered one. First time I used it, I discovered how challenging it was to get my hand free to signal a turn. How did I do this back on the day?
